1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data Find the points on the graph of z=(x^2)(e^y) at which the tangent plane is parallel to 5x-2y-.5z=0 2. Relevant equations An equation of the tangent plane to z=f(x,y) at (a,b) is: z = f(a,b) + fx(a,b)(x-a) + fy(a,b)(y-b) 3. The attempt at a solution Partial derivatives of ...

ideas from here? you could check when the plane normal vectors are parallel, or alternatively check when the directions of both the partial derivatives are perpindicular to the plane normal you can also do this with graidents, but it amounts to a similar thing

1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data Find equations of the following. x 2 -2y 2 +z 2 +yz=7, (5,3,-3) (a) the tangent plane (b) the normal line to the given surface at the point 2. Relevant equations I know it involves f x , f y , f z 3. The attempt at a solution I got 10x-15y-3z=7. Is this correct? Because its not ...

Ive got it now. I used the linear approximation and set it = to 0. I just had to take out the f(5,3,-3). I figured it was something stupid like that. Thanks for the help though.

1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data Find the angle of inclination of the tangent and plane to the surface at the given point. (I we are comparing the tangent plane to the XY-plane) 2. Relevant equations 2xy-z 3 =0 Point: (2,2,2) 3. The attempt at a solution This one was thrown into the textbook just to piss us ...

show your working... that said, the easiest way to find the nomal to the tangent plane is as follows. consider the scalar function of 3 variables, giving each point in R 3 a value F(x,y,z) = 2xy-z 3 The surface you are considering is given by the the level (constant value) surface for the above function when F(x,y,z) = 0 consider what this means, any path on the surface will ...

1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data a.) Find the equation of the tangent plane at the point given by: x = 1, y = 1 Draw the 3d-graph of the surface and the tangent plane. = the normal vector to the tangent plane. b.) If the surface is intersected with the plane y = 1, what curve do you get? Find the intersection of...
