Should we visit both Takayama and Kanazawa or only one and if so which? we will only have around 17 days for our trip , and otherwise will be in Tokyo, Kyoto and HIroshima.Travelling by train its doable but maybe better to spend more days in one location.. thanks

We are thinking to add a day of hiking around Takayama to our upcoming trip. We are reasonably experienced hikers, but are concerned about the weather conditions. Are there good full-day hikes that can be done without full winter hiking gear?

We are going to visit Japan in mid November in and out of Narita planning to stay at Takaragawa Onsen, Kusatsu Onsen, Takayama, ShinHotak and Kiso Valley. We are heading to Japan December 1 - December 10. We were hoping to see Kamikochi but in lonely planet it says it is closed ! We will be in Takayama on the 7th of December and was hoping to go to Kamikochi from there for a day or two. Is this possible ? Please let me know what my options are. Elizabeth
