I just bought a 1977 300d, and i'm interested in maxing out mpg. I have read claims that using high quality synthetic oils like Red Line or Royal Purple can increase efficiency and miles per gallon. Can anyone confirm this? I think i will use these oils anyway, but i was wondering if anyone using such oils has noticed an increase. Thanks...

Hi All, I am not trying to debate between dyno and synthetic oils - I just want to know if going back and forth with them is harmful. I am a 2500 to 3000 mile oil changer on all my cars, so with me, synthetic oil makes no sense. HOWEVER, I live in the mid-west and I like the idea of having synthetic in my engine during the cold winter months to take advantage of its low temp "...

I have a small stash of AC Delco EOS(Engine oil supplement). A friend of mine wants to purchase a few bottles from me. I run conventional oil in my car. I used to run a little of this stuff with my oil. Here's my question. My friend runs Mobil 1 Synthetic oil in his car. Is the EOS okay to run with synthetic oil, or is it designed to work with conventional oil? Thanks Dave

Seriously, don't use it....Works been slow, so when not one, not two, but THREE Passat's come in back to back to back in a week with flashing oil pressure lights and the "STOP" flashing in the info screen, its safe to say I was a happy camper... Three oil pumps, three pick up tubes, three oil feed lines (to turbo) one turbo, and a whole lot of sludge cleaning later I'm ready for next week.......

Hi, Big service due and I think I'm pretty sold that using synthetic engine oil will be worthwhile this time round. Just wondered what other UK drivers might be using weight wise (20/50 etc). ? Also any reccs for insulating the engine bay area, I've been trawling various threads for quite a while now but not much on engine bay, more inside the bus. My engine won't be coming ...

When I had my 2008 GT for the 15000Miles oil service, I asked the garage for 5W30 Mobil 1 (5W20 is not available in Europe, or very hard to find). The guy did instead put some Texaco 5W30 synthetic, because: "I put American oil in American cars", he said I guess the net margin on that oil was better... Anyway, the cars seems to run OK. Did anybody try that oil ? Any risks ?...

So I bought my first WRX and have decided its time to learn something about how cars work. I've been reading everything on this site now for a while and have learned a lot. Now its time to get my hands dirty. I've decided to change my oil and want to run Rotella 5W-40. I don't know what is currently in the engine...could be conventional oil or synthetic. Is there a way to tell the ...

I got an 09 Civic that has about 14,000 KM. I will be coming on my second oil change and was wondering if I should use Synthetic oil or not. My other car (02 Camry V6) has been using Mobil 1 Synthetic oil from 20,000 KM (177K now) and the main reason was due to Sludging concerns on the 1MZ-FE V6 engine (which was blown out of proportion at the time). So, the question is if I should use...

My 1998 GS 400 (85,000 miles) runs great with regular 5W-30 oil and regular changes at 3,000 miles. With so many good reports on Synthetic oil , I may change to a Synthetic oil like Mobil 1 on the next oil change and keep the vehicle using a synthetic oil for the future. Has any one done this and are there any advantages besides longer change intervals. I know the cost per quart will be ...

Hi Gang, I've got around 1200 miles on my new lockers in the XJ, time to dump the dino juice and get some synthetic oil. As a wandering Nomad I'm in SW Florida and like the fool that I'm, the ARB manual is in N.Y. I looked on the ARB site and they recommend Shell 90wt. for highway/light off road and Spirax 85-140 for heavy off road/high HP high torque use. The local speed shop here ...

Ok, Generally on a turboed car i would use synthetic, but im looking at the motor and its seeping oil from the oil pan gasket, head gasket and probably other places too. Now the dilemma is which oil to use? I hear synthetic will seep/leak on higher milege cars... but it is a turbo car. So what do you guys recommend, short of pulling the motor and redoing all the gaskets? lol The...
