Could anyone point me to a nice color coded wiring diagram to hook up a strain gauge to a RJ50 cable?  We have sheer strain gauges meaning there are 6 wires total going into 4 terminals (EX+,EX-, CH+, and CH-).   Any help is appreciated.  Also, does anyone have any other wiring diagrams for other basic daq devices that can be wired into RJ50 jacks?

Hello MechHead,   If you set up a Strain Task in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), with the appropriate Strain Configuration, the connection diagram will show you how to connect your device.     If you are looking for a breakout for the RJ50 cable there is the 9949 available.

I am trying to read a strain gauge signal; however, the output signal appears with a lot of noise, in the range of 5 mV. For readings, I am using the latest version of LabView Signal, so I think I have the latest drivers for the devices. The strain gauge is connected to the Device SC-2043-SG, which is connected to a DAQCard-6062E using a cable 106838C-01. The DAQCard is attached to a ...

Gonzalin,   What is your input sensitivity (microstrain/Volt)?  Your graph looks like bit-toggling to me - switching between zero and +/- of the least significant bit.  Since the 6062E is a 12-bit card, for a 20 volt range (+/- 10 volts), the LSB is 4.9 mV.  That would seem to be the cause.   Either pre-amplifying the signal, or reducing your input range should improve the voltage ...

I looked trough datasheets of such ic's (like LM3914 or LM3915) and i couldn't come up with an answer. So if anyone can answer it would be great. Can I use a strain gauge signal (including the bridge) as input signal for a dot/bar display driver (like a VU meter). The signal goes up to maybe 0,0005V. If needed it can be offset to some voltage. If i use an amplifier i could prolly get...

Why 2-3 volts tops? Amplification can go to whatever voltage you wish... certainly more than enough to work a bargraph IC. --------------------

1. Problem Statement: I am trying to measure the radial (#s 3-6) and hoop (#s 1, 2, 7, 8) strain (and from that, stress) present in an aluminum cylinder. I am trying to use a standard full wheatstone bridge setup, but am having trouble settling on a setup that would give me an accurate measurement. I haven't tried my current setup yet as I want to be reasonably...

Also, I forgot to mention that the cylindrical system is a shrink-fit system, with dimensions as shown in the picture. One of my main problems is trying to compensate for the gradient imposed by the boundary between the surfaces.

What about using something like a laser distance gauge? Not sure how that would work at speed, though, and all I'm finding are the Home Depot style laser distance finders. Does anyone make a strain gauge that I could temporarily install into a strut? l8r)
