What is the effect of claiming on an income protection policy on state benefits? e.g. is there a limit to what you can receive via the policy, before it effects the state benefits that i could be entitled to, should i become unemployed/sick for a long time (i.e. job seekers allowance, council tax help)?

Interesting article: Quote: Growing numbers of mothers are choosing to live alone and relying on state benefits which encourage them “not to bother” settling with a life partner, research for the Centre for Policy Studies found. Geoff Dench, a sociologist who conducted the study, said the proportion of mothers who live alone had risen from 10 to 25 per ...

In my lecture last week, we were discussing the prospect of instead of offering means-tested benefits, child support, pensions, etc., the state instead offers everybody a basic wage. It is potentially possible, with the removal of any other sorts of benefits (I can't find the figures now, but I did have them somewhere). It isn't exactly pure communism; the levels of tax could hypothetically ...

I would go for the income protection, it does not stop paying out after 12 months. My O/H had inc prot and it paid out for 13 years, increasing with wage increases. We would have been in serious trouble if we had mortgage protection that stopped after 12 months. He paid the premiums himslef out of his net pay, and then the payouts (monthly) were not taxable, didi not affect his ...

You'll find more info on the DWP website, but here's a extract: What happens if I die? This depends on whether you are married or in a civil partnership, and whether you died before or after you had claimed your State Pension. If you are married or in a civil partnership and you die, your husband, wife or civil partner may be entitled to get extra State Pension or a lump-sum payment because...

Whoever told you no is dead wrong. I know of many ex NJ State employees who have moved to states such as PA, FL, NC, GA, NY, VT....all have kept their NJ provided pension benefits & coverages. I don't know who told you no but they apparently had no connection or were familiar with any ex NJ (or any other state) employee and must have just been guessing.
