HD DVD discs were not region coded so you would only have been unable to play R1 dvd's . UK dvd's and any HD DVD would have played. I'm wondering why you expressed surprise that the season 2 Blu is in the correct ratio of 4:3 because season 1 was also just like it was on HD DVD too.
