Let me bring up something that's really puzzling me. I love butternut squashes. I make holiday pies with them because they are much better than pumpkin. Also, I like to roast them, & then mix in asiago cheese and roasted garlic for a side dish with dinner. When squeezing the juice of a roasted squash out through cheesecloth (to make pie), I would always wind up with bright orange-...

The Bug The bug is the "Golashes go Squashes" Quest in Bill's Ranch. Although I have defeated the Laceback Golashes many many times (both in a crew and by myself), I can not complete the quest because I can not talk to Albert. Whenever I approach Albert, there is no "!!!" above his head and when I click on him, he says nothing about the quest one way or the other. I am not sure if the game is ...

I did some thinking after reading the last helmet thread. I think I would be more apt to wear one if it was comfortable. It's about time to replace the one I do have anyway, so I might as well get one that fits better. My current helmet squashes my head. I always have a line across my forehead when I'm done, and I always have a headache. I've measured my head a few times, and I know I have ...

I've had a whole bunch of squashes and a few pumpkins given to me. I've gone through and thrown out a couple of the pumpkins because all of them weren't stored properly and where going moldy. These are some of the biggest crooked neck squash I've ever seen. Some are well over 15'' long and 8" around. I don't know the proper name of them but they have the brown smooth skin and deep yellow orange ...

I am in the process of purchasing a home in Lake County, Fl that sits on 7 acres. I would like to start a "U-Pick Vegetable Farm". Plan on growing strawberries, pepper varieties, lettuce, squashes, tomato's, herbs, pumpkins around halloween, watermelon, cantalopes, etc. Am considering going "soiless" such as the verti grow systems. Have visited several locations that have implemented ...

I'm planning a trip to the store to get some snacky things to take with me for my week with family. I'm thinking popcorn, a couple butternut squashes to roast, a couple quarts of zero point veggie soup, good tea. I'd like to take even more... what are your favorite SF or low-point snacks?

Just as another data point: all the butternuts I've purchased this season have been from local farmers, and they've all been delicious. If it is a new variety that's been planted in recent years, you might have better luck acquiring your squashes from your local farmers' market.

To echo MikeS, I had two (organic) butternut squash from our farm share and they were delicious, flavorful, bright orange and everything you'd want a butternut to be. The two butternut I've bought in a supermarket have been sad, horrible, pale imitators of squashness. The origin of those squash is unknown but they were bought at a large regional market that ships stuff all over and buys from ...
