Alright so here is the skinny. My Turbo isnt spooling at all. Car drives like a standard non turbo car. There is no known boost leak and the pipes hold pressure, but Im not counting anything out. If there isnt a hole in any of the pipes or vacuum tubes what could it be. Car also made unique burning smell... almost plastic or electrical smelling, not oil or gas. I have heard people say that changing gear ratios changes the way turbos behave, and it makes sense because I don't see as much boost in first as I do in second and up. So my question is how does changing rear end gears effect a turbo spooling? I want to maybe go 3.73 one day but what will that do for my turbo set up?

Turbo not spooling then to much boost.. I have a 99.5 Jetta. I was driving home from work today and my turbo was barely spooling. My boost gauge was reading 3 - 4 PSI. I cycled the key off then on and it worked fine until I got on the highway. Then I noticed that I was hitting 18-20 PSI. Normally I'm at 14-16 PSI and from what I've read 14-16 is normal. Just trying to trouble shoot some problems... I've noticed that firstly I can't boost in 1st. I can hear the turbo spooling, but it never reaches boost on my gauge. In 2nd, I can hit 5psi for a second (i boost 6psi max) and then it starts to drop. I hit 5 around 3-3.5 rpm. In 3rd, it's the same, but I can hold 5psi for a longer amount of time. turbo making a miss firing noise and i dont know why?? i have a 03 sti blob eye impreza when accelerating at half throttle the turbo makes a missin firing sort of noise like it isnt spooling properly. if i floor the accelarator it doesnt make this noise it spools up fine and seems 2 run smoothly, does anyone know wot is wrong??? When we fit a bigger intercooler ( i fitted a 550x230x65 with 2.5 piping ) will your boost gauge indicate a lower boost ( about 0.1bar) reading? Spooling up still feels fine though, just peak boost drop slightly, I have the normal small k03 ( going to get a GT2871 in Jan ) My throttle body sits on the Passenger, took piping over engine.
