(Or "Spindle Upgrade: FAIL") Ever think carefully about doing something for a long time? And then finally spend the money to do it? And then get kicked squarely in the boys for your trouble? I'll put the bottom line at the top. For those of you with the series II controller/vfd, how is the speed accuracy? I.e., if you calibrated it at 500RPM, what's the speed at a commanded 1000RPM?...
Hello, This is my first post, hope someone has an idea!. I am running a Sherline cnc lathe with the Sherline control box and computer. I have installed Mach 3 as I found Linux Ubuntu a pain to set up. Everything is working OK but I would like to thread cut and need to control spindle speed from Mach3. Is this possible?. i.e. Does the Sherline controller have an input capabilityfor this. ...

I am a newbie for using CNC milling machine. Don't know ask here correct or not~ I would like to ask about what kind of feed rate and spinlde speed do u use for these materials, and do u use coolant for those materails? 1,Aluminum 2,ABS (plastic) 3, Arcylic (plastic) 4, Mild steel 5, Stainless steel Any books or reference can I read? Thx all~

was wondering if in the future, platter drives will come in a more 'storage only' design? the WD green drives are slow 5400rpm but still have quick transfer rates. i wonder if it would be cheaper if they made them spin as slow as laptop drives do (4200?). they'd be cooler, quieter and (maybe) need less power to run. they'd still have decent transfer rates too. might even be cheaper to make

I'm converting this machine to CNC and will use a VFD and new 3 phase motor for variable speed. There a several ways to skin that cat, resulting in a wide range of possible spindle speed ranges. I'm thinking that it would be nice to have the option of getting to around 3000 rpm, only for occasional use on small diameter parts. Can the bearings take this, with the understanding that most use ...

Hello all I have a BP running 4 axis with Mach 3. I need to be able to have some kind of spindle sensor so that if the spindle shuts down....the Mach 3 prog will quit or error out. My machines are over 30 years old and stuff happens. It has happened 4 times so far and I spoil a cam when I does. If I had a sensor that said or detected that the spindle has or is slowing down,,, the ...

I own a 7x12 metal lathe. recently i have been trying to tackle the project of converting it to cnc. Where i stand right now is having a stepperworld.com fet3/dynamic stepper kit, that basically came with everything. I do however would like the run threads on my machine and also constant surface speed. I did some research on what people use to control the spindle and i purchased a c3- index pulse...

Does anyone have any suggestions on where and how to mount, and what type of sensor to get my X3 spindle speed into mach3? I have the CNC4PC pulse index board ( http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/prod...roducts_id= 129 ). Someone suggested that a hall effect sensor might work, and it can be mounted in a hole in the gear cover to line up with a gear on top. If I go that route, I would have to ...

I'm looking for a milling spindle that can work in the range of up to 3000-5000 RPM. I've got a high-speed spindle installed on my DIY 8020 aluminum machine, and I find it somewhat limiing, for ex. I can't do any facemilling and I can't use any bits that are larger than, say, 1/4" (on metals, I mean). I've seen some people mention using servos as a spindle motors. Has anybody done that? How's ...

Hi there, This might be a bit late to be much use, but here's a spindle made up by mounting a servo to a live tool off a big CNC lathe. It was actually intended to be switched between the lathe and a mill, but hasn't made it to the mill yet The speed range is up to 4500 rpm, and it just uses the Mach3 step/direction spindle output for control. A nice thing about using the servo might be ...
