Good morning friends I finally can experience the joy of seeing a cutting GROW during the winter and not rot away! As many of you might remember, last winter I had them in the garage and no idea it was not warm enough and lost them all. Even after just ONE cold night and then bringing them in :-( So.... From POTD for December 09 The joy is overwhelming!!! Love the moss ...

Hey Tina....I put the barely moist moss in a 4" or smaller pot with cutting 1/2 covered, then I put the pot in a large ziploc freezer bag, seal it up and forget about it. When fully rooted I take it out of the bag and pot it up normally. Hope this helps Jill

I am a container only gardener - Zone 8B - Nanaimo, B.C. I am planting 5 Blueberry shrubs of various types in wine half barrels in early spring 2010, using a soil mix of: 5 part Fir mulch. 1 Part Spagnum peat moss. 1 part Perlite. My question is to all the experienced blueberry growers out there is: What fertilizer should I use?....How much should I apply?....At what intervals ...

I potted up many Kalamata sticks last week with spagnum and a little dirt. These were sown directly into the medium, immediately after I cut them from mother tree. Not prerooted in a bag.  Today I looked and there is good Spaghetti growing in the pots. In one week Unbelievable. Has anyone else ever discovered this with Kalamata variety?

I recently bought 4 VFT's and 2 different breeds of pitcher plants. They are all planted together in a long 2' flower box. The soil is mostly spagnum moss and some plain dirt, no fertilizers. So when I first got them a couple of the VFT's weren't looking too good, some leaves turned black and they went kinda limp. Then I realized it was because I wasn't watering them enough, so I thoroughly ...

We had snow/rain/you name it-here in eastern PA (oct 16) and I know I have to dig up and dry my Elephant ear BUT--last year my dd told me to put a "little" moisture in the bucket of spagnum moss (ground up) that I had my bulb resting in. I put in about 1/3cup and when I took bulb out--1/2 was moldy soft! Planted it anyway and it was spectacular! BUT--this year--do I put it into the dry moss DRY...

I have heard of using a mixture of spagnum peat, perlite and portland cement to make pots. They seem to be a bit fragile for me. I can be a clutz from time to time. Has anyone made pots using this mixture? If so, how did they hold up? I was also wondering about self hardening clay. Will this be suitable? I would like to add a new level to my gardening skills. I have idle hands and a creative ...

Spendy to buy locally, but fairly easy to grow. If you can grow carrots or beets you can grow leeks. Around here they'll grow thru autumn nicely. Start some seeds in peat pots about the time your spinach is 2 weeks from ready to harvest - as the spinach (or any other salad crop) gets harvested dig a trench where the old plants came out and enhance the bottom of the trench w/some spagnum peat, ...

Thx everyone, for the input. . . I still haven't done anything to it, but I think I will take a few cuttings and root them in spagnum moss and a baggie (with VF-11 of coarse) and use my heating pad. I'll leave some on the plant as well, just in case it does decide to grow. Mike, can you please tell me what your watering schedule is. . . moist but not wet, slightly dry between waterings ...
