Hello, I'm currently eating a vegetarian diet but I want to attempt to move over to vegan. However I won't/can't eat soya in any form. What I'm looking for is any pointers towards good cookbooks, recipes and any nutritional information you could supply. If I'm not eating soya in a vegan diet will I be missing out on any important nutrients? Linda

Just to alert those who use the above to the fact that the ingredients have been changed-it now has less fat, less soya beans, must cost less to manufacture and tastes awful!! Needless to say the price is the same-tastes like they have taken a normal carton and diluted it by half. I have bought this for years and bought a box of 12 last week. Opened the 1st one and thought it was "off". ...

My daughter (9.5 months old) has a severe dairy allergy (we have to carry an epipen because she has anaphylactic reactions to it) and because I work part time and can't express enough, she has soya formula when I am at work. We tried Nutramigen, but she absolutely point blank refused to take it, and because she is over 6 months old, the paediatric dietician suggested we try soya formula instead....

In a bid to find high protein foods I have stumbled across Soya Mince. I have read the nutritional information and it says that there is 50grams of Protein per 100grams of mince! This sounds unbelievable and would certainly provide plenty of protein for my diet. Does anyone else use Soya mince as a source of Protein? Is it a viable option? cheers

http://www.hopperhaven.org.uk/ There is a Christmas fayre at Hopper Haven Sun - its a sanctuary for rabbits and guinea pigs. Not a totally vegan event but there will be soya milk and vegan mince pies, cards, gifts and small animal food and a chance to meet the rescue animals. Im going with my friend and some of the volunteers there are vegan.

Hi we have just found out after 5 and a half months of nightmare feeding that Joseph is lactose intolerant! We are starting to wean him now and I don't really know what implications this will have. We've been prescribed soya milk and obviously I can mix that with his baby rice but the baby cereal seems to have whey and stuff in it so presume that can't be used. Have ...

I made curry using basic curry ingredients and soya mince, with puy lentils and tomatoes. But, I put the heat on too high, I thought I had left it simmering when it was actually cooking on high heat and now most of the flavours have been ruined I hate wasting food. Luckily, the curry itself was made out of something my housemate made and botched up! But even so, I want to 'rescue' it. I ...

Everyones comments are really interesting. I shall try Tesco's soya milk (I got onto SM when I went vegan-stopped being vegan but don't like cow milk anymore). I shall also let you know what response I get from Aldi to my letter of complaint.

AFAIK, these are TVP chunks, which you normally pour boiling water over and leave for 10-20 mins, then flavour up/cook as a meat substitute. I saw that myself and thought it was a bit OTT, so didn't buy them. They're relatively cheap, so you could always start by boiling a small amount for 10-15 mins, to kill any toxins, as you would with actual soya beans. If you're alive the next morning, ...
