Your kidding right? The Soviet government had nothing to do with it. All they did was crush all other opposition as any government tries to do. My Russian friends were informed that they had to deal with the shortage of food, because Soviet government was sending rations to Poland. In fact (from what I know) we (Poland) were only sending the coal for free to USSR.

A friend who walked out of the Soviet Union and is now a US citizen has worried about government intrusion into privacy. He's not worried about government paid healthcare.
