I am sweating together some copper pipe and have found some silver solder in my collection of solder. What type of flux (if any) is required for this application? Thanks

I cant solder worth a darn. Is there any benefit with regard to reducing hum in simply lining the control, and pickup cavities, and the back side of the pickguard with copper shielding tape?

While shortening a gold-color chain bracelet for a friend I found the two O-shape end links can be bent opened fairly easily. I.e. if stretched, the link could turn to C shape and fall out. Is there gold-color solder that can be used to solder the ends of the link together so it can't open?

The other day when I had my T40p on my lap working, the screen started going "fuzzy" with lots of little lines periodically when I had my hands on the palm rest. I know these models are susceptible to the solder joints on the GPU failing... I'm hoping this isn't the case... but wanted to check. If it is... can I swap out the motherboard for a better one? say a T43p or something? (I have the ...

Hi all, I was assembling back my guitar and accidentally dropped the Edge tremolo (painful, I know) onto the surface of the body and it created a deep dent. I used the cotton steam and solder iron method to try and elevate the damage. Now, my question is, do I need to leave it overnight for the wood to harden before I start oiling again?

I removed the old damaged closet flange while ripping out the floor during my bathroom remodel project. Was initially going to use the Cast Iron Flange Replacement by Oatey (the one with the steel bolts that tighten the compression fitting) but this doesn't look like it will fit the bend on the lead elbow and I am hesitant on forcing it to fit. In addition, as you can see it looks like it is ...

Anybody know if there are any brush-on, rinse-off acid washes for solder/came etc in colors other than black and copper? Golden maybe? Greenish aged type? Where to get? Personal observations of use? TIA, Bob

Cheap Electronics Switch with Wires connected. I am looking for one of those cheap little switches with the wires already connected, so I can just spice the switch where it needs to go. I checked the source but they only have these kind that you have to solder the wires on them... http://www.thesource.ca/estore/produ...roduct=...

just need confirmation in what im going to do is proper. im hooking up a pressure switch for under tank lighting. unfortunately the box that holds the switch doesnt necessarily have enough room for the wires and marrettes(wire nuts). i want to solder the connections together , then use shrink plastic to protect the connection instead of electrical tape. any advice or negative aspects to what im ...

I have a homework assignment to construct a metaphorical sculpture. Not that its original, but I chose "time flies". So I have about 800 near microscopic pocket watch parts that I bought on ebay to make into flies. I had assumed I could solder them, but they are so tiny that now I'm not so sure. Does anyone have experience making things out of watch parts? Steampunk expertise, perhaps?

I am trying to solder two ultra-fine wires (finer than human hair and just visible to the naked eye) to repair a phono cartridge. The varnished wires run from the armature to output terminals with normal soldered connections. But, one is broken and too short to attach directly and needs a further length joined to it. I have practised with similar wire (e.g. from a tweeter cone) and can ...

I've come across a couple of these just lately, both on scopes strangely enough. First was on a Solartron CD1014 dual beam scope, one end of a 0.1uF decoupling cap was neatly hooked round a solder tag but hadn't been soldered. Whilst investigating an intermittant fault on a Dynamco 7100 scope today, I found one of the input attenuator resistors was only soldered at one end. Both of these ...

I am making another couple of bubblers up and recall the last time i had a nightmare cutting the holes for the pots in the lid. I ended up using a solder and was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions. This post has been edited by hairyscotsman : Nov 22 2009, 09:30 PM
