OS X has a unique (and very nice) architectural feature of multi-architecture binaries. However, this is the root of many problems people see in Snow Leopard. Let me explain: Leopard was a mixed 64 / 32 bit system (ignore Intel / PPC). Default was 32 bit . Applications wer build 32 bit if not explicitly requested otherwise.
