QUESTION: I have a Firex model fx-1020 that I think is going out; It made a short, loud horn sound(not chirp). I took the cover off ,but could not find a place for batteries. Does this model have batteries? I realize it is past replacement time, but how do I silence this thing until I can get a replacement or electrician? and would it be connected to the other one? ANSWER: Hello Vicki, and ...

Wiring run for two linked mains powered smoke detectors goes like this: Consumer unit -(T&E)- detector 1 -(3 core & earth)- 20A 4 terminal junction box -(3 core & earth)- detector 2 My question is is there any regulation that prohibits the use of a junction box in a linked smoke detector circuit?

Hello, Any of you folks using those relatively new wireless smoke detectors in your house ? The ones that are networked together wirelessly, such that if any one of them goes off, they all do. Do they work (well) ? What brands/models are good, and more importantly, which to stay away from ? Thanks, B.

My hallway ceilings throughout the house has a line of recessed lights. My electrician needs to wire smoke detectors to those areas in the ceiling. Should I have him place the smoke detectors so they line up with the recessed lights down the center? I'm thinking that would look better than having them randomly placed and too noticeable if they were off center.

We all know how important it is to have a working smoke detector in our houses back in our home country. Build a new house in the US, and you can bet there will be more than 1 smoke detector installed. Now for the Philippines .... I hardly ever see a smoke detector installed here, even in brand new upscale houses, there is a real good chance you won't find a smoke detector .... Any idea as to...

After reading several posts recently about fires in shops, luckily people were present and were able to keep them from becoming disastrous, it made me wonder if anyone uses some sort of smoke detector/alarm in their shop. I know there can be nuisance alarms which could be annoying but that would be better than a pile of ashes. Also proper methods and procedures are better than any safety ...

another thread reminded me. if ya don't have smoke detectors, you should. if you have them, check the batteries. if you have heating devices that use gas/fossil fuel, you need a carbon monoxide detector. if ya already have both, it's a good time to check them. if you know any single mothers, remind them too. they make great gifts.

We used to have a program in our FD where we would go and install smoke alarms for free. Seems the old city attorney didnt agree with the liabilities involved and made us quit. Reasoning; The batteries could go dead without the occupants knowledge, leaving them to beleive they were still working. We also went to schools, and reminded the kids that every time they have a birthday, the alarm ...

It's not pedantry. The Approved Documents are not the Building Regulations, a fact which is not changed no matter how many ignorant people consider that they are. This cuts right to the heart of the rottenness that afflicts the plumbing forum - as soon as you start lying to people because you cannot be bothered to explain things properly to them you risk devaluing every ...

My detached shop has an alarm and smoke detector hooked up to the house alarm/smoke detector system, which is monitored. I considere it cheap insurance....
