I have a sitemap set up for my mediawiki site. The sitemap is refreshed with a cron job every 24 hours. My question is, how often does google check sitemaps? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give

well, just disable automatic generation of sitemaps and then do it manually after you post. didn't they think about incorporating sitemaps into the core? or was that just for wp.com?

Hi, Though sitemap is not everything to a search engine, it helps the bot quickly index web pages from your website without analyzing much. It has not much impact on your search traffic and page rank at all rather it supplements. Cheers
