Hi, i have just fully restored this nice old radio which i saved from a skip. All of the wax caps have been replaced as well as out of spec resistors. I was digging in some old boxes and found my SONY short wave receiver. Turned it on and couldn't get anything, just noise. Is it because South Florida is too far away from civilization? FWIW the noise sounds like a jammer. Kind of like we used to hear Voice of America back in the USSR - "Hello, this is the Voice of AmeriBZZHZHZHZHZHZHZHZHZHZHZHZHZH"

For EMP I just use some of those Christmas tins with a lid. Put foam around it to isolate the radio from the metal container....You could double isolate it by putting the smaller tin in a ammo box with a insolator between each of the boxes. I isolate all the electronic I'm not using (or spares)...flashlights(some have electronic chips in them), GPS, solar panels, ...
