I used my Wolverine sharpening jig last night for the first time, really like it. But something's not quite right when I sharpen the skew, methinks. I'm grinding on that nice radius, getting a smooth bevel, but the bevel is longer on the long-point side than is it on the short-point side. I don't use their bevel jig, only the V-bracket included in the basic kit, rolling the tool and sliding ...

A posting in the forum pointed me to a description of an interesting way to sharpen an image. This Octave Sharpening is useful when you have to do a lot of sharpening and want to avoid the typical halos around the edges. The secret lies in a combination of 4 USM sharpened layers with different opacity. As in the recipe I used an amount of 5 (500% in the Other Program), threshold 0 and 0.5, 1, 2 ...

I got some pfeil brochures from store today. They have some info about how to sharpen Pfeil. Just FYI if you don't know it before. Sharpening Tips All pfeil tools come sharpened and honed, ready-touse. The bevels are ground to an angle between 15 ° and 25 ° depending upon size and use of the tool. When resharpening, make sure you: 1) Use the correct bevel form as indicated on ...

I'm trying to get better at sharpening my photos. I took this with my 50mm/1.4 at 1/50, so I know the shutter speed is a little slow, but I did some editing in Lightroom and here's the finished product, output at 85% quality. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

These are some pictures of my son (6 mo. old) having way too much fun with his food. Once he grabbed the spoon it was all over. Anyway, I'm working on my sharpening using Lightroom, and I'm really new at this still, so any help would be appreciated. These were taken with the 50mm/1.4 at f/2.8, 1/50. I realize the shutter speed is a little slow. I believe I used bounce flash, too. Please ...

One year ago, I posted a photoshop action that's supposed to let you i) Bring out microdetail without making bold details too sharp ii) Avoid sharpening halos http://simplexx.net/Joe0Bloggs/index.html http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1 006&message=29402337 It was by most accounts a rather difficult action involving too many steps of user input. During some recent ...

Hello, As I become more proficient in using both aperture and understanding various aspects of adjusting photos, I am not at the stage to send some prints to a professional lab. In using aperture to sharpen, how can I determine how much sharpening (or if I applied enough) to apply before sending the image to the lab. Would a tool like Nik Sharpener Pro 3.0 make things easier in performing ...
Hey Guys, How come some sharpening stone require the use of oil and some only water to make sure the metal does not clog up the stone? Is there a quality difference? For field use the water type would be much better. Thanks, Geoff

Current versions of Photoshop feature an improvement over the traditional Unsharp Mask known as Smart Sharpening. Adobe also now lets you turn regular image layers into Smart Objects. If you put Smart Objects together with Smart Sharpening and throw in some simple edge masking magic using the Masks Panel, you can get really smart indeed.... More...

I'm looking at sharpening for B&W prints: Here's the same shot on a Pentax K20 taken in RAW+jpeg, tripod and 2-second delay. The in-camera jpeg is adjusted for minimum saturation and maximum contrast and "fine" sharpness. Capture sharpening off in RAW (Bridge), then in PS4 the same "auto" tone and contrast is applied, then USM before the B&W conversion. I see no significant difference. http...

Unless I'm looking in the wrong places, there doesn't seem a whole lot out there on if, where and how to sharpen up footage. The only place I've come across the option to sharpen is via Filters when going through Export - but avoided it as it does seem a bit crude and basic As ever, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

First and foremost, you can get knives plenty sharp without doing this. Just thought I'd show it.... adds a bit of consistency/accuracy between passes. I sharpen on the paper wheels at the top of the wheel, wheel turning away, holding the blade level and setting the angle by moving down the wheel. Described here: Paper Wheel Sharpening Saw this laser level guide at Lowes for around...

This is a clamp system, like Lansky. The coarse stone (yellow) has a small gouge in it, but can still be used. Everything else is in great condition, just a little dirty from use. (Included - fine stone, V stone for serrated edges, coarse stone, clamp, oil, instructions, case.) I'm giving it away for FREE because I have no use for it, just ask that you pay for shipping ($5). US only!...

I'm torn on what I should do. After handling some Sebbies today, I have been bitten by the bug. My parents typically will get me one nice gift for Christmas of my choosing. I was planning on going with the Edgepro Apex 4, but after feeling the amazingness of the Sebenza, I'm leaning toward getting one of those. What are y'all's takes on this predicament? Should I go for the ...

Was at my parent's house for Thanksgiving and they have let their Wustoff knifes go. Bigtime. They couldn't cut hot butter. They looked into getting them sharpened, but the places in Arlington and Ft Worth charge by the inch. WTF? The Knife Sharpist in Austin charges $3 per knife. Any recs in DFW? I'm broke right now and I thought it might be a great (cheap) Christmas gift to get ...

Hey guys, I just recently purchased the T1i, which has a few more pixels than my XT so I thought I'd give the moon another go. This was shot with a Canon 75-300 @ 300. ISO 100, f/8, 1/45" with a little PS sharpening and crop. I'd love to hear what you all think? Any good at all?

I was trying to add a vignette and an overall sharpening filter in the Color FX room (rather than use a secondary for the vignette. I know I must be missing something very obvious but can anyone offer some direction o this? David Peace
