I have a stupid, yet easy question...?, which number is the right "tag" number. Under the bar code I have a 16 digit number separated by 3 dashes. So what number, on the label is the right one, for the "service tag" number.......?. I have a Optiplex GX270.

No you're not looking in the wrong place. Monitors do not have service tags. If your monitor was ordered alone, your order number is the identifying number. If it came with a computer, you use the computer's tag.

Welcome to the forums Your only option, is to contact Dell tech support, and hope they can help you resolve the issue? But what's the betting they'll ask for your service tag number!
