I found a container of flour in the pantry and I think it is self rising flour, but I'm not sure. Normally I leave everything labeled, but hubby "helped" clean up the pantry one day when I wasn't home and, well, you can guess the rest. Does anyone have a test I can use to determine whether it is self rising? I don't want to bake an entire batch of something and have it flop....

I'm new to using self-rising flour. I bought Martha White and made biscuits with it and also some other things. I find that what I make tastes a bit salty. I don't add salt but wondering if another brand wouldn't taste as salty.

Take a small amount, maybe about a 1/4 cup, mix it with just enough water to make the consistency of pancake batter and then cook it on your griddle. Then simply check to see if there was any rise to it. In either case, feed it to your hubby
