I heard somewhere that ITC Garamond was one of the typeballs available for the IBM Selectric. Is this true? The two coexisted chronologically, so it could have been possible. Perhaps it went by a different name at the time. Thanks!

Hello Got a noisy Grundfos Selectric 4, "450/130" that's just about had it and I don't want to mess with the pipes unless I have to. Have just struggled with the Grundfos website for nothing and winter's on its merry way. Would anyone know if the head of something like a Selectric "15/60" fits the back of a Selectric 4? Ta. Dave

Hi all, I have a grundfos selectric 4 pump and have cleaner in my central heating system at present which i now need to drain. I am being advised that i need to drain as much as possible and then refill with clean water and run "just the pump" for 20 mins, and then drain and repeat 4 or so times to dilute the contents as i have drop feed radiators that i cannot drain fully....

Okay, in the middle of typing a letter suddenly the carriage return stopped working. The machine still works fine otherwise, it advances and even correction and backspace work, but when I hit CR all it does it go to the next line with the carriage staying in place. There is NO resistance on the drivetrain at all, I can manually push the carriage back, I hear a "click" and I ...

WOW!! I really think you missed the mark with your suggestion, fihart. The guy wants an ILLUMINATED keyboard...either for the gimmick-factor, or for gaming in the dark. Either way, the main feature HAS to be backlit keys...and no matter HOW long your IBM will last, it does him no good. BTW - I completely agree with you on the quality of IBM. I still have the original IBM Selectric typewriter I ...

In the Monotype system, the widths of characters are determined on the basis of 18 units to the em, where each character is a whole number of units wide. So that the same font design (and matrix-case arrangement) can be used in different sizes, the Monotype system allows any point size to be divided into 18 units. Because some fonts are condensed, and others wide, it is possible to set...

Why bother? The big deal about these old keyboards is their lovely, positive key-click. When you use a keyboard that doesn't have a good positive click, it's hard to tell when you've depressed a key properly. You have to watch the screen to make sure you don't leave letters out, or you have to really hammer the keyboard, which is not good for your hands. Most of the mid-priced ...

You are right of course, Milly, but I too detest the 'ribbon.' The last ribbon I had to mess with was on an IBM Selectric®. I understand that there are some 'third party' utilities that will restore Word (and maybe other programs) to the "legacy" look, and I was sorely tempted to try one, I even went so far as to almost buy an ...
