As far as I understand it, a SecuROM disc check is just that, it doesn't have the rootkit aspects of something like Starforce. SecuROM itself is actually pretty mild, even the installed version... the only reason I despise it is because of the limited activation variety. TAGES is even worse though... that crap is terrible.
