Hello all, and a Merry Christmas. For the above Christmas, I am getting a lovely great box of Super Sculpey. I plan on turning the sketch below into a painted bust for my portfolio. Problem is, I have no experience with the stuff. Could some of you mighty beings enlighten me? I need to know: 1. Sanding. I hear you have to sand down sculpts post-baking in order to paint them? How does ...

If I am going to make a mold of the statue, what should I use? I like Super Sculpey because once I am happy with the result I can bake it rock hard, but Chavant is cheaper and seems better for detailed pieces (I also like the way it melts when using an alcohol torch). But I am afraid that it will suffer when molding. What do you think????Help me!!

I like to sketch in sculpey when taking a break from sketching and computer work. I get a little frustrated with the material sometimes, I'd like to create cleaner sculpts with straighter lines. Can any sculpey enthusiast give me some advice on the following: Sculpey, Sculpey II, Super Sculpey, or Premo, what do you like best? Best tools for working with sculpey - Plastic or metal? ...

Recently I've been on a bit of a part-time crusade to figure out how all those damned fairy sculpting artists go about making their creations so beautiful, specifically in skin tone. There's a sort of sub-surface scattering that makes all the skin on their works look so real, soft and alive. Acrylic obviously is not the answer. But just recently I picked up some super Sculpey and have been ...

New Media design is kind of like graphic design, except we focus on media for on-screen. So we design, program, animate and implement when needed. I just set up my Portfolio this weekend, though it's still in progress :9 Everything on there is my doing, spare the flash program. I could probably make one myself, but my as3 is pretty crap and it would take me forever to make a xml & php powered ...

I've always been really tempted to use seaweed to paper mache something, and now I finally did--a Christmas gift for my husband The castle wall is made from a canvas covered in paper mache, and the dragon is made of sculpey covered in seaweed mache. Mostly I did it as an experiment, but it turned out better than I thought it would And because I like my crafts to have a ...

Do not use turpentine or turpenoid to smooth it out. That is for oil based clay. You want to use alcohol or one of the sculpey smoothing products you can buy.

I use RTV silicon for my molds all the time and I bake sculpey into them. The silicon is a two-part putty that you knead together in equal quantities. It allows 5 minutes for actually making the mold, then it starts to harden. It is quite flexible and does not stick to the clay. Hope this helps!
