It's been discussed a lot on here and it gets lot of hate. I've seen it but not for a few years and when I first came to these boards I was surprised by the amount of hate it does get. I'm going to rewatch it pretty soon and would basically just like people to share with me what their main problems with it are. I've heard the term 'schmaltz' a fair few times, is it simply too over-sentimental?...

So.. thought misc would be interested in movies especially Chinese movies (after all we are your new overlord right? ) I suggest you all watch: Assembly Based on a true story. Very brutal civil war. Then look up Shinjuku Incident : Jackie Chan is in it but not much of his usual fighting expertise. It's mostly to show how brutal the hate is between the Chinese and ...

I was watching "Saving Private Ryan" on TV and after the commercial the announcer said "intended for mature audiences". It has a MA rating, so they can only play it at 3 in the morning. But last night there was a three way sex scene at 6 p.m. during "Gossip Girls". Why would girls kissing girls, and guys kissing guys in a graphic depiction of sex be OK, but a depiction of moral courage is deemed ...

Unconfirmed, but still a good indicator: Quote: Paramount German specialized site Bluray-Disc.de recently gained access to a list of upcoming Blu-ray titles from retail chain Saturn, which included Steven Spielberg's 'Saving Private Ryan' for March 25, 2010. As usual, this information must be considered unofficial until there is a formal announcement from the ...

It was a rainy Sunday in Missouri so I sat and watched Saving Private Ryan after church... That was the first time I got to see the very beginning of that movie... Movies that depict the beach landings at places like Normandy, the south pacific and the other horrific beach landings really make me stop and take inventory on my life... All gave some, some gave all...

"There's no way the lives many would be risked to save one. It's strategically indefensible. " I'm no military expert but it doesn't really seem too delusional to let a group of nine or so men rip through various countrysides without any clear military purpose except simply join and fight where needed until they bump into a Ryan. I dunno, the plot doesn't feel as stupid to me as to most other...

Well, I'd like to think "Full Metal Jacket", "Patton", and "Platoon" are more realistic than "Ryan". All three are based on real-life experiences (maybe not everything that happens, but they are for the most part). And I'm not saying I won't watch "Ryan" again - I own the friggin' thing. But it just kinda discourages me after finding that out about the plot.
