I saw this Baird's Sandpiper this evening at the edge of a small pond in the company of 7 other Baird's Sandpipers. It was clearly in a different plumage stage/age than the other birds. Could people please give me their thoughts on its age/plumage Cheers Alan www.surfbirds.com/blog/falklandbirder

I processed a few more of the Sandpiper I shot yesterday. Having visited this location for a number of years however this was the first and hopefully not the last time I will see one. Quite an appealing and dainty bird.

So I was hunting and saw a bird that I believed to be a snipe. I shot it and looking at it up close i'm not sure exactly what it is. Any ideas? I don't think it's a dowitcher, is it a woodcock? a sandpiper? I really am baffled. I'm not a bird expert so maybe it's something common and i'm just an idiot, but i don't think i've seen anything like this before and identified it.

I took these photo's in Norfolk a few years back and as much as I know its a green sandpiper, I always remember this bird as looking odd. The bill was thicker and more downcurved than the other GS present and had a greener base, other than that the pale spot under the loral stripe was distinctive. Unfortunatly I cannot find my notes on this bird to give further diferences noted at the time. Can ...

Just following on from my previous post about access at Abberton, please note that all of the permits issued by Essex & Suffolk Water will be withdrawn from 31st December 2009 due to the building work starting at the reservoir in January. This means that the only access from 1st January onwards will be to the causeways and the EWT reserve - unfortunately it does mean that anyone wishing to...
