Hey, I have recently been asked to take a mistreated Samoyed. He is 7 months old and adorable. I have never had one and was wondering does his coat destroy your house or is it bearable?

Is there a way to look up old info on the AKC web page? The trainer we are meeting with for Obi has been showing for 30 yrs and has many obediance titles through AKC. I tried searching his name under breeder in case he ever bred his Samoyeds, and for showing, and I can't find anything. I tried the OFA database too, but couldn't find a place to input owners name. I don't think he breeds any ...

Just found this site. I've been rather frustrated looking for a site to discuss dogs in general, and Samoyeds, mini-Aussies in particular. Both of my dogs were rescued from bad situations. Woody P Coltrane, the mini-aussie is 3 years old and weighs 10 pounds. Ozzie (Blizzard of Ozz) is 6 months old, 35.5 pounds. I've tried to join Samoyed groups so I can learn more about this--rather different--...

This time it is the Poodle that keeps us in stitches with the publication this month of The Crafty Poodle Knits from Kanine Knits Books. This is the 7th in the Crafty Dog Knits series taking its place with Samoyeds, Labs, Goldens, Berners, Newfs, and Corgis as breeds that have their own knitting book. Each book has 25 different designs for the breed. Check it out at http://www.kanineknits.com.

Here I am studying genetics once again, and came across a theory: "Genetic testing on Samoyeds has found them to be homozygous for both recessive red and recessive black. Some geneticists (such as Sue Ann Bowling) have suggested that it is this combination of genes which causes them to be solid white. This would be because recessive red stops the dog from producing eumelanin (black pigment)...

> To me we could spend alot of time discussing this but I don't know in the end if it really matters. I believe there have been realignments in the past, much discussion arose at those times. I don't know that the fact that the breeds were moved changed them in particular. I have Samoyeds here and and a siberian husky (soon to be two). To me it doesn't matter if ...

QUOTE(mum24dog @ 10th Nov 2009, 1:58 pm) Pitbulls are illegal so you can cross that one off the list. Before anyone makes any suggestions, could you give some information as to your lifestyle, housing situation, hours out at work etc? Not being nosey but those are all very relevant in a choice of dog. Pam dont worry, i knew that. doesnt stop people acquiring them though.... as ...

Yes, I am about ten minutes from the Mall. Darn, I could have seen Camouflage Callie in person and bragged on the GW. Hope she gets on a good sleep schedule soon. I had neighbors that had two Samoyeds. They were wonderful dogs.

Well, at the very least you can tell it's a dog...I'm just kidding. Although it's not the cutest dog I've ever seen (my heart is with Samoyeds ), I feel that in their own special ways, all dogs are cute. Besides, the "cuteness" isn't relevant for me. After all, I don't "man's best friend" refers to how cute a dog is.

Very interesting, but it makes me wonder, weren't there any breeds/lines of dogs already in existance that could do the job? I would say an elkhound...if they can keep an elk or moose at bay for 24 hrs...am sure cattle would not be a huge challenge....think flying moose/elk hoofs trying to beat them off....they are hardy.....but no one ever looks at an elkie....whew....LOL ...
