My wife and I are looking at Salida as possibly our next place of residence. We are currently living in Mammoth Lakes, Ca. It's a small mountain town in the High Sierras with a big ski resort. We moved here in 2001 from Maggie Valley, N.C which is also a small mountain town with a ski resort. We aren't wealthy, if anything we are low middle class, but we do work hard for what we have. We ...

I was a resident of Leadville till 2001 and was driven out by the high prices. It looks like Salida has some sanity left. Thinking about coming back to that area. Miss the 14 teeners. There are rentals available it appears but is there any place for a 62 year old cabinetmaker to work or open a shop Thanks

What is the situation in the Salida or Buena Vista area for medical marijuana...are there dispensaries and doctors there, or do most people have to go into the Springs for meds ? Is the weather really much milder there...much less snow?? Empolyment, crime, nice people?? I hear it is called the banana belt because of such nice weather. How far a ride is it to Colorado Springs? I imagine ...

I am planning to move to Colorado Springs but have been hearing the weather is better in the 'banana belt' towns of Buena Vista and Salida. Is it true that area gets less snow? Do most people there have to commute to Colorado Springs for work? Just would like comparison information....is it better to start out in the Springs to get a handle on a job, ect? Thanks for any help.

Day 7: A surprise 6" of new. Hooked up with Bobby Danger, skidog, jtran (after his tough 90-minute workday at the Snowpine), salida, Marc_C (yes, the old grump still skis!), Tele Jon and Perry for a morning at Alta, which was blessed with a surprise 6" of fluff. Snow report said zero. Not enough to bury the base or many of the rocks, of course, but that'll come tomorrow. Which is why I skied ...
