What WONT a 12gauge with slugs or sabot kill? Bear etc? What is the limitations of a 12gauge with the best possible ammunition? I have heard of using a 12g for protection against bear of any size but would it work against big game? Is there FMJ sabot that would make one effective against even larger animals?...

Anyone loading 20Ga Sabot with 45 Cal bullets?? I found the Sabot and I do my own 20 Ga shot shell loading so if I think about this right the only cost I will have is Sabot and bullets I have everything else already. Is it worth the effort??

Last night I decided to try putting a .490 round ball in some of the old gray 12-BLS. I used 3inch FIOCCHI hulls+23 grains Clays powder, one BPGS with a X12X on top, BLS12 with three 32gauge nitro card placed inside of sabot, and a Sierra .490 round ball with roll crimp. The wind was blowing at 10-12 MPH, which are poor conditions to do any shotgun test. I tried five shots from both a ...

Guys, I have my 12 guage shotgun which has a rifled barrel sighted with Winchester sabot slugs. If I want to shoot a differnet brand of slug do I need to resight my gun?

sabot slugs Maybe someone can answer this. I know "they" say not to use sabot slugs in a smoothbore, but has anyone tried it? The M-1 Abrams uses a 120mm smooth bore and sabot rounds to destroy other tanks at ranges of 5 miles or more. Why can't I shoot sabots out of my smoothbore shotgun barrel(cyl bore)?

Been reading up on some bullets also. Do the sabot bullets leave a plastic residue in bore and how hard is it to clean this out if so. Been thinking about power belts but am going to be using primarily for hunting and I have heard about the power belts exploding on impact thus leaving no blood trail. Thanks in advance for any help with this

[IMG] [/IMG] WTT in DFW area only - No shipping Winchester Super X 1 oz. Sabot Slugs (XRS12) Specifications here: http://www.winchester.com/Products/s...s/default.a spx 6 boxes - 30 rounds total (see pics) Seems ammo prices have these at around $10.00 a box. Personally, I think that's insane. Instead, I'd like to trade these slugs for a 50 ...

Hey I have heard alot about using .458 diameter bullets with harvester crush rib sabots in .50 cal muzzleloaders. Would the barnes .458 SOCOM Triple Shock X with a harvester crush rib sabot work in a 50 cal muzzle loader. I have a 1 in 24 in twist barrel and 28in long. I plan on using the new white hot powder at 100 grains (2 pellets) or 150 grain (3 pellets) my gun is brand new and the company ...

A 12ga slug will kill a bear VERY quickly (I use it myself for bear hunting). I've seen the damage these things do, a slug (or 2 in quick succession) would take down almost any animal in the world, especially with a shot to the front shoulder. A sabot through a rifled barrel would get you out to 100 yards easy, and I've seen foster style slugs through a smooth barrel drop a deer at 200 yards.

No, they were true 4 and 8 bore rifles and they were the best of stoppers before the dawn of Cordite. Not shotguns with rifling and they did not fire a hollow base projectile even remotely similar to a shotgun slug. They were real rifles, used full length brass cases and fired real bullets.

I have ordered some .495 round balls to try. My Remmington barrel is not as thick as many of the newer shotguns so I do not want to push it. The 32 gauge 1/8'' thick nitro cards measure .52 inch and force the sabot open slightly. Although I didn't find any of the old sabots the nitro cards were all crushed to pieces telling me that the sabot had good contact with the barrel. If I could find a...

I found a good site to purchase round balls for my reloading experiments http://www.bpstuffllc.com/ . Has anyone ever tried their products. They seem to be 1/2 the price of other companies. The rain moved in so I guess I will go back to loading a few rounds.

I would agree with the group and say, yes, you do want to check your zero. But, just FYI I use a Mossberg 935 with a 24" rifled barrel and cantilever mount with a Bushnell Trophy 30mm red dot sight and that gun will put 2 3/4" Remmy Buckhammers, 2 3/4" Lightfield Hybrid EXT's (blue hull), and 2 3/4" Federal Premium Barnes Expanders into the same exact hole at 100 yards. You could shoot 1 of ...

A5Guy - I'm OK with the 2-3 inch groups at 50 yds from my overbored 12 ga Gold & BPS using the cheap Rem Sluggers. They've put a lot of deer on the ground for my sons and I. We hunt from ground blinds in open woods bordering a swamp. Shots are usually from 20 - 40 yds with my longest being 63 paces. I just don't need 2 inch groups at 100 yds under these circumstances. The 20 ga BPS (also ...
