I work with both SQL Server Express 2008 and Microsoft Visual Web Studio Express 2008. However the two programs don't seem to be "in sync" properly. Probably this is because I set up the database wrong, but I'm not sure. I first add a new database and a table in VWD (Visual Web), which creates two files, a MDF and a log file under Documents\VisualWebStudio2008Express\Websites\Webs ite\APP...

I have tried using the Web Platform Installer v2.0 but get this message. I have also tried using Windows Installer v4.5 after installing Windows Powershell v1.0 but without success . Hi, I've just installed SQL Server express on my Windows 7 PC but I can't find an icon anywhere to actually run it. All I have on the start menu are "Import and Export data" and "Configuration tools". Any suggestions please? Thanks
Hi! I have a .net application which communicates with a webbased server database provided by SQL Server Express 2005. This databse has to be synchronized a couple times a day with a local database server (als sql sever express). I started looking at replication, but since sql server express cannot be a publisher, this will not be an option... I have looked into Microsoft ...

I have a couple files I am trying to import into SQL Server Express 2008 that are in RPT File Format. Apperantly someone just executed a Query to File. The Folder they are stored in is read only so I can't rename to .txt. Does anyone know how I can import these files? When I use the Import Wizard I can't get the files to Delimit properly, It looks like tab delimited but that doesn't work. ...

I am thinking of upgrading from Access to SQL Server Express but in surfing around I see many have problems finding the correct connection string. My Access databases are only used as "property stores" for ASP generated pages and as such really only function in a "read" mode when accessed from my website scripts, so minimal security is required. The current connect strings I use for Access ...

I have had SQL Server 2005 Express installed on another system and it appeared when running the Data source configuration wizard. Now, with 2008, it doesn't show up there, nor in the ODBC manager when trying to create a new SQL Server data source. It's getting frustrating, but I don't know what too do. Please advise if you can. Thanks in advance!!! J

I need to define my own keywords in the SQL schema. And I need to translae my own queries, keywords, using terms defined in schema to SQL queries. Basically I need to extend SQL to my own stuff. If it can be done on Express, I will do that. So, is it possible? And how do I do that? Any reference? If not, I will resort to MySQL, but, I prefer to give Express a try first. Thanks.

Hi Joe, Like Lek said, you need to install SQL Server Management Studio to connect the SQL Express database engine service. Which version of Express Edition, 2008 or 2005, you can download corresponding version of Management Studio from Microsoft Download Center . Hope this helps

Thank you Ted, though I'm still confused about why in SQL Server Management Studio, it shows that it's pointing to the database under the VWD folder rather than the C:\ folder, and when I delete the files in the C:\ folder, I don't see them anymore in SQL Server Management Studio?
