I have a Toshiba laptop (2005, Celeron M 1.5 GHz processor, 1GB RAM). I've been using SQL Server 2008 but this is chewing up loads of RAM and processor, especially at startup. Of course I can set some sql services to manual and use them only when needed, but this is rather tedious. Is there anything that can be done in settings to reduce RAM/processor use? I'd rather stick with 2008, although...

I have had SQL Server 2005 Express installed on another system and it appeared when running the Data source configuration wizard. Now, with 2008, it doesn't show up there, nor in the ODBC manager when trying to create a new SQL Server data source. It's getting frustrating, but I don't know what too do. Please advise if you can. Thanks in advance!!! J

Hello! I just got a new computer with Windows 7 Pro on it. I am installing SQL Server 2008. I also installed SQL2008 SP1. When starting the Management Studio, it only sees an instance of SQLExpress. The MSSQLSERVER service is started and running according to the Services panel. Why can't Management Studio see the 2008 instance? Thanks Harold
