I want to install exchange server 2007 on windows 2008 server and I already have an smtp server set up on server 2008. Now, do both work hand-in-hand, or, if I want to install exchange server 2007, will I no longer need the smtp server? I am decent person: I am not using neither mine nor gmail's servers programmatically. Should I understood that Email by code from cited post does not pass through gmail site? Why, then, it does not work for non-blank password or for non-existing gmail/yahoo accounts? And those techniques do not work with many other public webmails (for ex., from mail.ru)

Well when I tested this with putting a simple message from the link I got form you in the pickup directory it just sat there. With telnet it completed but then sat in the queue folder just like the pickup directory what should i do?

Thanks Winston and Gary. I think that cleared up my problem. I got my earthlink account to to connect to smtpauth server by changing the port to 587. For my skyvalley account I have been using webmail access. I was just trying to figure out how to get my Windows live client to work while traveling. maybe it's time to get a gmail ...
