Is Mobil 1 0W40 less prone to forming sludge than Mobil 1 10W30 HM? I have read here that 0W40 has a superior blend of base oils, and that these may be more resistant to forming sludge. I have used Mobil 1 10W30 HM for the past 50,000 miles in my 99 Toyota Avalon. Over this past summer my truck (98 w/4.3) had been running a little hotter than I would have liked. I decided to do a water pump, thermostat and motor flush as soon as the weather got cooler and today I had a hell of a suprise. So I pulled the valve cover in my newly aquirred s13 today to set the cam angle sensor only to find that the entire valvetrain was NASTY!!!! Obviously the previous owner did NOT regularly change the oil. Anyone have any ideas on getting it cleaned up shy of pulling the head?
