While on our Columbia and Snake River cruise on the Cruise West Spirit of Discovery, we were treated to a full-day jet boat ride excursion in Hells Canyon of the Snake River. It was great fun to ride the snaking river almost 90 miles upstream through the steep canyon with the cliffs towering over our boats. We stopped for a break at Cache Creek and for lunch at Kirby Lodge before heading back ...

Has anyone recently taken one of the river cruises in Portugal? The idea of travelling down the Douro River is appealing to me. Are there any large, luxury ships that are the best, more reliable companies etc.? Thanks!

We are looking at the river cruises by Tauck and Viking from Amsterdam to Budapest. There is a huge difference in price. Is there really that much difference in what the cruiseline can offer?

Recently returned from a Viking river cruise on the Peterhof. -the Peterhof was described by a fellow passenger as the "Motel 6" of cruise ships. Nothing special, but clean and good service. Cabins are small without amenities like hair conditioner, radio, TV, hair dryer (but a hair dryer is available for check out at the registration desk). Small refrigerator provided. Antiquated ...

I am thinking of visiting Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary an neighbouring countries when I visit Europe next year. I'm not sure I can travel independently in these places. I am reluctant to do so (especailly Bulgaria and Serbia). I have looked at tour itineraries, river cruises, etc. I do realize that tourism to this part of Europe is fairly new and that there isnt' much to choose ...

I know nothing about the Jayavarman but a new luxury boat the RV La Marguerite has started running cruises from Saigon to Siem Reap or VV. A friend of mine visited the boat when it docked in Phnom Penh on its maiden voyage in late September. Very lux and pricy. Web site here. http://indochina-sails.com/

I’ve lived in Singapore, and currently live in Hong Kong, and between the two I would choose Hong Kong. (No slight to Singapore, but that’s my vote. October weather is also excellent here.) But Bangkok is very, very interesting as well. It’s a hard choice, and my real recommendation is that you simply extend your trip and do both! One thing to consider is that Cambodia and Thailand both ...

Zuriga - I understand - we were both very anti-cruise and have not become "cruisers". Neither I nor my husband could bear to be on a ship with hundreds/thousands of passengers - ideally a maximum of 300 is OK for us. On the Danube cruise ( our 4th cruise but 1st River cruise) there were no more than about 130 - which reduced to 98 when some people who were only booked as far as Vienna left...
