I know it's been said that the shortest length for a rifled barrel to be somewhat accurate is 18" and the longest effective length is 24". How accurate would a slug barrel be at 12"? Also, none of my shotguns have rifled barrels, so I'm completely new to anything other than smooth bore barrels. Also, would be using Remington Accutips. I've got a Remington 870 with a smooth bore and was going to shoot rifled slugs out of it. What type of insert should I have in the end to protect the threads for my chokes or is it ok to shoot just the way it is? The end of the barrel seems a little thin without any choke or other type of insert in it. I'm more of a bowhunter and don't know a whole lot about firearms. Thanks.

I have a hankerin' to experiment with slugs out of my smoothbore 12g (22" with removable choke). I have shot TONS of shotshells but have never (to my recollection) shot a slug. My question is....do rifled choke tubes really improve accuracy? I can't find much in the way of first-hand accounts. Second question...any experience with Brenneke KOs vs Federal Trueball? I give up. What's the secret? What are the prerequisite buildings and technologies required to build the Constitution? In return, I offer Rifled Barrels, Crop Rotation, and the Leeward Islands. I will be going to hunt in Ohio next year and I am looking for a reliable shotgun with a rifled barrel to purchase without breaking the bank. I have looked for a rifled barrel for my Stoeger M2000 but have not had any luck. Any ideas? Thanks.

I own a benelli super blackeagle 2 and was wanting to shoot slugs out of it. It does not have a rifled barrel just the regular shotgun barrel. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?

We just finished up our early antlerless 3 day hunt here in Iowa and I must express how much I dig my 20ga. Mossy 500 with a rifled barrel and a bushnell red dot.
