Hi Experts, I have been google around on which filesystem are more superior. I am using Suse and noticed it was using reiserFS as default filesystem. Somehow reiserFS are not much supported by other 3rd party restore application and it also don support system dump. The only benefit i see was the execution time are more faster in smaller size file. I tot the standard should be using...

hi my laptop battery gave up the ghost midway through booting, probably at a critical moment. Now the boot process halts with a message similar to this: Code: REISERFS error (device sda10): vs4080 _reiserfs_free_block: block 1418656: bit already cleared REISERFS (device sda10): remounting filesystem read-only -----------[cut here]------------ WARNING: at fs/reiserfs/journal.c:...

I'm using a SuSe 9.0 Linux and I just rebuilt an array (RAID1) because of a failure on one of the hard drive (critical error). When I reboot I had this error; --rebuild-tree required. fsck.reiserfs /dev/sda2 failed (status 0x4). I then tried to boot using Memory Test, the result was below; kernel (hd0,1)/boot/memtest.bin Error 15: File not found Please help with these ...

Hey! I can't enable extended attributes on Ubuntu. I have tried adding user_xattr as attribute to my /etc/fstab. I have tried both ext2,ext3,ext4,reiserfs but none works for me. Does the Ubuntu Jaunty/Karmic kernel lack support for extended attributes? There is no /proc/config.gz in Ubuntu so I can't check this either. I believe that I have gotten it to work on an Ubuntu ...

I dual boot windows XP (NTFS, on 40BG drive /dev/sdb) and ubuntu 8.10 (ReiserFS, on another 120GB hard drive /dev/sda). There are also FAT32 partitions on both drives exclusively for data files. I was repartitioning the linux hard drive using GParted when something got screwed up... computer no longer boots. Specifically: I shrank the FAT32 partition on the Ubuntu drive (sda), creating ...

-- SELinux, Xen, Red Hat, Fedora: http://sys-admin.hu

QUOTE (Ryu-ka @ Nov 23 2009, 01:08 PM) I'm trying to resize my Fedora filesystem partition using the F10 install DVD, but when I attempt edit it, I get an error saying "You cannot edit this partition: This partition is part of the LVM volume group 'VolGroup00'". If I try to use Gnome Partition Editor to modify it, the filesystem is identified as "Unknown" and I can only ...

If you don't mind performance, go for reliability and choose Ext3. If you want to optimize your system, use something like this: /tmp - reiserfs /var/tmp - reiserfs /it works better with small files/ But if you ask me, if you have enough RAM it's best to use a small portion of the ram for tmp's. / - xfs /home - ext3 /for reliability reasons/ Or use ext4 for all except the tmp's.
