I've been reading and searching but all I seem to find is from the early 2000s so I'd like a little help with that :)I'm writing an essay and I'd like to know what the percentage of the destroyed coral reefs for my sentence that's sposed to catch your attention...It's kinda hard with coral reefs unless you mention their endangerment to REALLY catch people's attentions. :) Thanks in advance!

OSAKA (Kyodo) The coral reefs of Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, are being devoured by an explosive increase in poisonous starfish, and only five volunteer divers armed with tongs are combating them to save the rich marine environment. The crown-of-thorns starfish ("oni-hitode") originally lived in subtropical seas. But after the 1990s, they started appearing off Kyushu ...

Seems to be some ideal habitats, e.g. seagrasses, somewhat sheltered lees of islands/reefs, though I haven't seen many trying to chase them in these locations before.  Is there too much water movement for them from the swells / surge / tides ...
