This snake is at a local pet store, labeled as a rat snake. Any idea what kind it might be? The eye looks weird because it is either badley retained or missing the eye cap, it also has something wrongs with its bottom jaw, possible healed over nose rub. Poor thing is also terribly skinny and has some kind of wound on its back. Sorry for the terrible pictures, its was taken with a cell in ...

I went to the pet store today just to get some pinkies but the owner asked me, "do you want another snake?!?" I was curious then she pulled out this beauty He's a 2 year old Yellow Rat Snake from her personal breeding stock. She didn't really have room for him anymore so I jumped at the opportunity A good size relation: he's on a 1' square vinyl tile. Close-up of ...

I've been looking up information on the Brooks Kingsnake and the Leucistic Texas Ratsnake, because I can't decide if I want my next snake to be a bloodred corn, or one of the two above. While I was reading about the ratsnake, I saw that since they are so inbred, that some of the hatchlings have bubble eyes. I would rather give a hatchling with this deformity a good home than take a healthy, "...

Quick questions-- A coworker of mine asked if I wanted a snake--she said her boy friend was thinking of getting rid of his snake. I asked what kind of snake it was and if she had any pictures. She told me it was a red rat snake and that she'd try to find some pics--she said it was about as long as from the tip of her fingers to the elbow of her other arm--which was as confusing in person as in...

Just wanted some opinions on what this little guy is. He was wild caught in Hawthorne, Florida (20 miles east of Gainesville). He has a white spearpoint on his head. No black at all. His saddles are void of any color and appear as a lavender color. He has light yellow spots between the saddles that lean more toward a peachy color as you head toward the tail and head. The ventral scales are...

I was wondering what the comparison is between the care of a Texas rat snake and that of a corn snake. More specifically the difference in temperament and basic care. I have never even held a Texas rat snake... but I am In LOVE with leucistic Texas rat snakes. It's something I am considering for down the road Here is a photo of a model and a leucistic rat snake: http://...

Hello all... Im at a loss here and any and all advice would be extremely welcome. The day before yesterday I noticed a bi-lateral swelling about one half down the length of my snakes body (snake is a 6 foot long rat snake hybrid, about 13 years old, Ive had him since he was a baby). Yesterday it was still there, so I took him to my vet, who is a reptile specialist. X Rays s
