Does anybody know if a my son would be able to collect his chapter 35 benefit if he would be accepted into an ROTC program? Since they would pay for his college it just seems he would be double dipping. But if he is still eligible to receive it, that would be a great start to savings. Thanks for anyone with input. Happy Holidays to all my VET Brothers and Sisters.

If anyone on this forum is interesting in enrolling in an ROTC program at Carnegie-Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, or any other colleges in the Pittsburgh area, I can be of some help. I gradudated from Carnegie-Mellon's AFROTC program and retired from the AF three years ago. I can tell you that Carnegie-Mellon no longer has its own AFROTC or AROTC units. Cadets now ...

Can you tell me what ROTC instructors do during the summer? Do they participate in ROTC cadet summer training? Recruiting? Are they on leave? Answer They can take leave during the summer, but there is also ROTC training and schools that are carried out during the summer that officers must oversee. They also plan lessons for the upcoming year. While definitely more relaxed, they aren't ...

Hello I applied for a 4-year college scholarship from the Army and Navy through the ROTC program. I got accepted to UM and was wondering if anyone is or knows anyone in ROTC at UM right now and could give me some more information on what its like. I also got an LOA to West Point, so (assuming that I get accepted for a 4-year scholarship (though I'd probably join ROTC even if I dont get ...

Our son recently received notice he has been selected for a Navy ROTC scholarship at Virginia Tech! This is fantastic news as Tech is his first choice school -- just needs to be accepted into engineering at this point. A friend, who also received a Navy scholarship but to another school, is considering requesting a transfer of the scholarship to Tech. We have heard that Tech's slots ...

I realize that this thread is not service-specific, but I am not able to figure out which ROTC program various people are talking about (other than people who have specified in their posts). N ROTC site says this: Minimum of two years active enlisted service or recoupment of all tuition dollars paid may be required for midshipmen who disenroll or are disenrolled from NROTC Scholarship...

Receipt of a scholarship for college has no effect on Chapter 35 benefits. He can receive all the scholarships he wants from any source and still receive his monthly check from the VA. Remember, the ROTC isn't "giving" him anything, it is a loan that he has to pay back with service. There isn't a conflict of interest.

I will say, from a "in the force stand point" it honestly doesn't make a difference in the junior officer corps. some of the best officers in my battalion were west point, some were rotc, some of the worst were west point, some were rotc. it depends on the individual. the difference is in the expectation, because as a west point guy, your nco's will expect more out of you, and if you do a good...

In the end your actions will help out your career. As screamingeagle put it as a west pointer you will be pressured to perform at a certain level. Regarding your sons admissions there are also MJC programs known as the ECP where cadets will commission as a 2LT of the US Army in 2 years and transfer to a 4-year institution to finish their degrees. I am currently enrolled in the ECP program ...

I'd use ROTC as an easy gauge. They tend to be on large public schools and your wife's job could require an urban/close suburban location. All schools have silly 18 year olds who don't know the difference between an unpopular war and military people and you'll learn to ignore their activities. Boston University has ROTC, but it is private and expensive and in Boston, so it might attract more ...

First, how many colleges do you think your son will apply? My personal opinion is that I would use the first three choices for three different battalions. If there were multiple colleges within some of those battalions (as in your son's case) I'd list the college he was most likely to be accepted for each of those three different battalions. Depending on how many colleges your son wants to apply...
