I am pulling my hair out trying to find how to do this. Current configuration: PE1800, CERC 1.5/6 (FW rev 7419), (4) 80 GB hard drives in a RAID 5, Running VMware ESX4 I want to add 2 additional 80GB drives and grow the RAID 5. The drives are in the machine and the controller sees them. I have initialized both new drives. The only problem is when I go into Ctl-A there is no option to...

Putting together a file server, wanting to run software RAID-5. I've done this a few times before and expected no surprises. this one has me stumped. 4 devices, all 1T WD 'green' drives, /dev/sd[cdef] (a and b will be a raid-1 I'm going to boot from) I want the kernel to automatically bring it up (I have visions of mounting this as the root partition, with /boot living on a hardware ...

OK, I got the new drive from WD. I plugged it it and it stated rebuilding all on its own. Only, when it got done, I could not see any of the files. Figuring there was nothing more to lose I rebooted the computer. Wow! Apparently the rebuild trashed the indexs. Chkdsk ran for more than an hour. About 3/4 of the files were recovered no problem. Many more are in numbered directories where it ...

Hi, I have an Nvidia RAID 5 array that I created on my old 780i MB. I have since given that motherboard to a family member but I kept the array since I have a lot of data on it. It consists of 3 hard drives in RAID 5 but it was created with the Nvidia software and controller. Can I move my existing NV RAID 5 array and my data to my new areca RAID 5 controller card?

Hi, guys, it's THAT time again... I'm in the early stages of building my new NAS. Currently I have a 8x1TB RAID 5 array, but it's almost full.:o I will probably end up getting the new LSi 9260 card for this array, but I am curious to see what you guys think of these two raid sets. What would be better to have in case one of the drives decides to die on me? And for what ...

I had a couple questions about RAID 5... I understand that to be redundant enough to be able to lose 1 drive each HDD has a section devoted to parity information. So for example in a 3 drive array, is the total usable space then the total size of the array minus 1/3 the total? Also, in a perfect world, is the performance of RAID 5 comparable to striping with just the cost of some space, or is ...

Hi, I have a Foxconn A7DA-S motherboard, which uses the 790GX chipset with the SB750 southbridge. I'm trying to set up a RAID 5 array using 4 Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS hard drives. When defining the logical drive, RAID 5 is not listed as an available RAID mode. I've got a choice of RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 10, JBOD and RAID READY, but no RAID 5. Anyone knows why RAID 5 is not ...

Hi; I have a 5 disk raid 5 array that is composed of SATA A:0,1; SATA B: 0,1, and SATA C:0, and one of the disks (SATA A:0) recently went bad on me. I have an ICP raid controller that is about 5 years old. I replaced SATA A:0. After rebooting, i went into the controller and verified that it saw the disk in the hard-disk info section...there i noticed that in the "status" section, that the SATA...

I'm looking for some help regarding my raid 5 array. I expanded my raid recently from 6 to 7 1.5TB hdd's I now have a 9TB volume that would have ~8.2TB available after partitioning Code: # fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 8999.9 GB, 8999998586880 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1094187 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000 Disk /dev/...

Danke!

I'm not "planning" on migrating the 1.5TB arrays until 2.5 or 3TB drives are out (but I do a lot of unplanned upgrades). According to the WHS graphs I'm eating about 800GB/ month so I guess I'm going to pray for 2.5TB drives in April :-/ Then again, with these 2TB drives falling under $130, I may pick up 6 for extra storage.

Wanneer TS een raidcontroller installeerd van bv Adaptec zit daar ook programmatuur bij om de raidset te controlleren.
