Hi. Tried posting here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w 7performance/thread/611c3c66-83dd-49e0-b4ad-b8016f f089fc but was redirected here. I can't find a Storage forum so considering the questions I have are relevant to my next install of Windows, I guess this is the closest forum. Please let me know if there are better places for me to post. Here it is: Hello. I would...

FYI- I learned today that installing the OS on a RAID 1 mirrored set is a bad idea, particularly for FCP. For those of you that like redundancy in triplicate - as I do - it's best to get your OS and preferences all set, and save a disk image and keep it aside, rather than doing a mirrored Pair (idea being of course if your OS drive fails you don't have to start from scratch). If ...

If you have two drives in Raid 1 setup and one drive dies, can you remove the dead drive and continue running with 1 drive until replacement drive arrives? Thanks.

I bought this a few weeks ago on Craigslist. IT is in perfect working order, and has been running smoothly in our house. The system is setup as a RAID 1, with two 1TB Seagate drives. The person I purchased it from worked in IT, and handled it fantastically. All the information on this drive can be found here: http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_software.asp?p_id=8 2 An empty NAS of ...

I want to set up my system to do the following but I'm not sure if I can do this yet. I want to use a single drive for my OS and make an image of the drive with a basic install of the OS and my most used programs. I also want to have a RAID 1 set up on two 1 TB drives for redundancy of my storage. My board is RAID capable. I'm not sure what else I need to consider. I keep ...

I have an MSI K9A2 Platinum mobo that has a hardware level raid controller. I set it up per instructions and it comes up in the boot sequence as RAID 1. When I get into Win XP 64bit it only shows the 1 drive, not the mirror. Is that normal when you use hardware level raid controllers? Reason I ask is I do not want to lose what is on my 1.5TB drive. This is my NAS basically and has ...

I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my primary disk on RAID 1 and Windows Vista and Linux on the secondary disk. I am no longer able to choose which OS to boot into in Boot Manager. Is there a way to boot into them or have a selection of OSs installed on your secondary disk while starting OS on your primary disk?

What options do I have with a MacPro1,1 for a SAS controller and/or hardware RAID? The two products on the apple store (linked below) both have unfavorable reviews. It is also unclear what MacPro models the two cards work with. My target configuration is 4 SAS drives in RAID 5. Older? 256MB cache raid card: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA849Z/B Newer? 512MB cache ...
