Went dove hunting with my father this morning, and did not find much. Did manage to get into some quail after some hard hunting though. My father (Lame Duck) did manage to get a few, but had to leave early. Here is me with my well earned limit of valley quail, and one lost dove.

I am hosting xmas pot lunch for friends next week..tired of turkey and ham.. planning to do fried quail (asian style)..any other ways of marinating quail or cooking quail? any easy dishes ideas for potluck. I will also be making a chocolate cake but as host, wanted to be sure there was a main dish covered.

It's amazing how many quail you do'nt see anymore. Late '80s and early '90s we used to have a coupld of bird dogs and hunted all the time. Now I got beagles and hunt rabbits like crazy, but in the last three years I think I've jumped six. Six quail, not coveys. And this is in three years. No telling how many miles we've covered either. Anyone one else ever been? For the past 5 years I have been lucky enough to go there with friends from Texas down to Tamaulipas Mexico, on the Gulf coast, just south of Brownsville. Every year has been great so far. We have been averaging 40-42 coveys a day over dogs. One morning we moved 27, but had to quit at lunch. We only count coveys that are pointed and shot into, not those that get up...

I made a trip to Kansas for the opening this year and thought I would post some pictures. I hunted in northwest Kansas on opening weekend. There are definitely a lot more birds there than I have seen there before. On Saturday, we had two fields where we flushed 40-50 birds, and at least half were roosters. We left Western Oklahoma for Great Bend KS on Sunday. now that the north season is finished I can start training my new dog. My 10 week pup would like some live bird exposure. Does anyone have a place where someone can by a couple of pigeons or quail for that matter? thanks
