Yum! Byron had a couple of quail eggs whole today as a treat. We do this every couple of weeks. He stands pretty, catches them in his mouth and then crunches them up shell and all. They are the perfect size for a small mouth. He says that they are delicious.

Went on my fourth quail hunt of the 2009 season. Finding a few more birds than at the beginning. I took a buddies old dog today along with my pup. The old dog was first to point a nice covey and I killed two on the covey rise. My pup found the second covey (HER FIRST WILD BIRD POINT!!) handled them like a champ and I was able to kill one of them over her. It is really fun to see the lights ...

My sister is moving from N.Y. to Dallas. She is going to be working in the Las Colinas area. Does anybody know if QUAIL RUN CONDOMINIUMS is a good community to rent/buy? How much is the rent for a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath condo there? How about purchasing price? How about condo/HOA fee? Is it a safe neighborhood?

After much discussion here and on UK board, I decided on a Pinot Noir with my stuffed quail. I managed to find a `06 PN from Schug in my cellar.....whisper my only PN too! The quail was boned out, quite easy, and stuffed with a mushroom and bacon duxelle. Then wrapped in proscutto and roasted in the oven for 15 minutes. Have to think the ham did not work, added zippo to the flavor. WTN: `06 ...

Is it feasible at all to release pen raised birds into a habitat and expect them to survive and multiply? There used to be lots of quail in our area years ago, but they seem to have disappeared (largely due to development, I suppose). May be a stupid question, but I haven't heard that "bob white" call in 20 years or more ...... 150+/- acres, mostly hardwoods with some scattered fields. Not so ...

About a month ago, I built a pen to keep some quail at the house. About 2 weeks ago, 2 got out. I figured the cats would eventually get them but they are still around. I went to feed the birds in the pen this afternoon and the 2 now "wild" birds were feeding on some spilled grain outside the pen. They took off running to the flowerbed when I came around corner and they were very skiddish. They ...

So this weekend a buddy invited me out for some California desert dove and quail hunting. I have limited experience upland game hunting but I am pretty good at trap/skeet shooting so I think I'll be able to shoot these birds. From what I gather we won't be having a dog so we'll just be pass shooting the dove and just jump shooting the quail. My friend shoots a Remington 870 wingmaster with fixed ...

Eric took a break from sitting in the deerstand today and worked his 7 month old German on some Quail. Dot stoled the show with some classic points. Eric was not thrilled with his shooting as he missed 2 of 4 but we were all amazed at this beautiful young dog. The shock collar not needed(what a waste of money). You can see by the photos why her name is "Dotte". Regards, Rick.
