I am using Mandriva One 2010, and I have a sound problem. When my desktop environment starts up (KDE4), at about the same time as the "welcome" sound, I get a 2-3 second burst of white noise. I can stop the white noise if I disable pulse audio, but then I have no sound, and it tells me my sound device is not working (HDA intel). Anybody come across this before, and have a ...

I'm trying to get sound working correctly on a macbook pro [4,1 penryn]. I followed this guide: http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=Main_ Page Which got sound working until I rebooted. I discovered after a few goes that following on after the wiki page instructions, pulse audio still wasn't working, so my initial workaround was to killall pulseaudio . which got basic sound going. ...

I have just noticed this issue on my system. With pulse audio enabled Kmix runs in the background but does not appear in my system tray. When I disable pulse audio kmix will show in the system tray. If pulse audio is enabled, after boot, if I run killall kmix and then run kmix, kmix will show in the system tray. This wasn't a problem at first, but I think I changed...

Actually mplayer output shows it's not using alsa, I am not sure but maybe Amarok is correctly using the appropriate sound card via Phonon. I think you should give the index trick I posted previously a shot, this should ensure that the appropriate card is always the default, I think it'll bring sound back to Firefox.

You can insist on using pulseaudio if you want, but I have gotten by just fine without it since 1994 with Linux.
