Public Transportation On New Year's Day I'm hoping to spend New Year's Eve on Utila, and was planning on leaving on the 1st. However, a dive shop told me they won't be running ferries on the 1st. Can anyone confirm this? If the ferry isn't running, I was thinking...

I'm not really keen on the idea of bringing a car to college with me, especially with LA traffic and all (if I end up going to USC). So, are there any actually good forms of transportation for students? I hear ZipCar isn't too great. Are they really building a subway type of transportation for students to get to LA? Any info would be appreciated.

We will be making our first trip to Hawaii next year and will have 4 days in Honolulu . We would like to see the "sites" of the island. We will be staying near Waikiki. Is public transportation readily available to see most of the island, or will we have to rent a car to see most places outside of the main city area? Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

I used the Bus about every-other day during a 10-day trip recently. I never bought the pass though. Each ride is only $2.25 and you get a transfer that was good for another ride in the next approx. 2 hour period (my transfers varied, once was good only for 1 hour longer, another time for more than 3 hours). So you'd have to ride a LOT in a short period of time to make the $25 a better ...

Regarding the frequency of buses...I wouldn't think they run all that often. And the end of the line isn't that much further than Fairy Cave...although I think the bus goes back to the junction about a mile back and heads towards Serikan. By "hitch" I meant catch a vehicle or minivan that might be going the way you want. Or you could walk back to the Krokong/Serikan junction about a mile back ...

i live in lauderdale and once i tried it without a car for a month. it was hell. hours just to go to places and get back on the bus. a short taxi ride is about $7-10 and if you use 2 or 3/day, it will add up. like #2, if youre just staying on the beach, you wont need anything. and you can even walk to las olas for the bars/restaurants if you like. try renting a scooter/motorbike for any day ...
