Lieutenant Camner Markson stood at a console in a designated area adjacent to engineering. His eyes scanned through the sensor logs as he worked on his theory. His true blue eyes stood out because of his dark hair which fell just past his ears and was shopped short at the nape of his neck. A few strands fell before his eyes which be brushed aside in irritation as he picked up a data-pad and ...

I don't think anyone here is under any obligation to be 'artificially nice' at all. However there is an assumption that everyone will be polite . Thats a subtle but important difference. If I'm being polite, I can strongly disagree with fools/idiots/morons without compromising my beliefs at all. After all most of the discussions on Mahalo are about ...

What do you think is the purpose of the Prime Directive? Personally, I think I would interpret it far more narrowly than some of the captains have. Here's the way I see it: Starfleet seems to be largely an organization of well-meaning liberal do-gooders. Between their noble intentions and access to vast resources, it would be a horrible temptation to play god with every pre-warp, pre-...

So Q snaps his fingers and Picards Enterprise appears in a empty region of space near Caprica 1 day before the Cylon attack. Federation tech is advanced enough compared to Colonial/Cylon that with shields (modulated through the deflector dish) and ECM they are all but invisible to DRADIS and will not be discovered unless they draw attention to themselves. ...

Prime Directive. A word I lifted from one of my college professors, who in turn borrowed it from Star Trek. It meant a guiding principle for him. Or for me, a guide or goal in general. A guiding goal? What is it now? Something to live by perhaps? I have been thinking about it a lot.... I dont really know...What is it I really want out of life? What am I supposed to want? The more I think about...

Depends on how you make a value judgment on cultures, though, doesn't it? Superior/inferior is being measured (in my example) in terms of overall integrity and coherence. Japanese culture can be considered "superior" in this case simply because the mechanisms fundamental to its stability are quite solid and it can therefore survive cataclysmic upheavals like open contact with Europeans and a ...

Camner was eating and thinking over his last set of readings when a tray placed itself in front of him. He glanced up as Hayley sat across from him, staring hard at him. It was then he realized it had been two days since he talked to her and he chuckled. "My story didn't cover the criteria I dictated beforehand, did it?" "Clearly there's more to it." Ensign Hayley insisted, hoping he would ...
