So, in class the other day we had a speaker (a general surgeon) who had everyone in the room introduce themselves with their name and their major. A freshman guy in the class introduced himself and said his major was: "PRE-MED FOR ANESTHESIOLOGY." REALLY!?!? I wasn't sure whether to laugh or slam my forehead into my desk. I'm aware that some schools actually do have a ...

I've heard bad things. But I love UChicago. If Med school is my target, then is UChicago the right place? Or is WashU St.Louis a better option? But i love Uchicago...............:'(

Hi All, I've got my pre-med on the 9th for urethra dilation and I just wondered what to expect as I 've never had one. (Even though I have had 2 laps). It says on the letter that it will take 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Any tips? J xxx

I'm semi confused on what's happened to the medical college sector of SU. From what I know the med school is now "property of SUNY." Does pre-med at SU still exist and is it anything like the program before?

Hey, I'm a prospective Gallatin student (I should be getting an ED decision back next week) and plan to pursue pre-med and go to med school. I saw a thread about pre-med at NYU in general and was wondering how different the pre-med experience at NYU would be for me at Gallatin? Also, as a side note, do Gallatin freshmen have to take Writing the Essay? I know they have other requirements, but...

I heard Princeton is not the place to go if you want to go on to medical school. With grade deflation and the competition there could someone tell me if I should go somewhere else?

UNLV also has a pre-med program. You receive a degree in Biology though. http://catalog.unlv.edu/preview_prog...04&returnto =96 The adviser/creator of the program boasts of a >90% acceptance rate into medical schools since the program's inception in 2005.

If you're going to med school, chances are yes, you're that annoying pre-med. I think we're all pretty obnoxious in one way or another, some of us more than others.

^I wouldn't think so. Many students do it and still get into top med schools. All you have to do is get good grades in any med related classes you take, score highly on the MCAT's, and dedicate lots of time to research. If I were on an admissions committee for med school, I'd take a kid whose shown his dedication to medicine through doing actual research as opposed to a kid who just decided to...

Also, AMCAS can apparently do some magic to figure out what records you didn't submit for previous coursework & place holds on your app. The stupid 6 hrs of humanities I took at an honors enrichment academy for college credit when I was 15 and never transferred for my degree will suddenly count. . .I'll be 33 when I apply. It's moderately ridiculous.

I dont feel awkward at all, but it is probably because I am in a unique situation. My school has themed housing and I am living in the community for biology and life science majors, where its pretty much half pre-med students and half pre-vet students. Even so, I dont mind telling new people I meet that I want to go to med school after I get my degree. Be proud!

Yes, I see your point. Let me clarify. I meant more specifically to say that the effect of grade deflation on the pre-medical education at Princeton isn't worth worrying about. Questions about pre-medical education should be based on ideas such as, "What types of opportunities are there for me to get hands-on experience?" "Does being a pre-med student at this university allow me flexibility...

All the schools on your list are fine schools and can prepare you well for med school. UNC is well known for its science departments and regularly sends its grads to top med schools. The "best" school for you will be the one that provides you with the best overall undergrad experience; academics, activities and social scene. It is a well know fact that "fit" and happiness are major ...
