Hi, Related to the thread on manual focus, I have things set up so the centre dot is my focus point (kinda means the others are redundant!). I wondered how many of you use just the centre one and if not why not and what advantage is there and when would you use the others? Cheers, Peter.

In case you were wondering! With 15 cross-type focus points: Nikon Imaging | Nikon D Technology THE POWER TO CHANGE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY By comparison a D90 only has the Multi-CAM 1000 AF module with 11 focus points and only 1, the center one, is a cross-type focus point.

Is there any setting in the 5D2 or in PhotoShop that will allow you to see which AF point was used in the photo, or where the point of maximum focus is?

Hi there, AFAIK 5D2 offers a 9-point AF system but only the centre is cross-type the other 8-points are linear-type sensor. If my subject is not dead center in the frame, my question is whether it is more reliable for me to use the center focus point & recompose @ select the nearest focus (the linear-type focus point)? Based on your experience which of these have higher keeper ...

I have D60 with three focus points within it. When i try taking pics in auto mode with auto focus, camera selects the focus point on its own (either left, right or centre). But many times the focus point that camera selects is not the one which i want. I have tried moving a camera to select focus point which i wish to select and then realligning the camera to take pic. But many times ...

I always hit the 4 way controller with my big hands, so the focus point drifts from the centre to the right and I end up getting the trees in focus and the subject soft until I notice. Can't find a way to lock it - anyone know how? It's my favourite among the Nikons, I've got 4 different DSLR Nikons and the D40 just does it for me. If I can solve this problem it'll be perfect!

What mode/settings are required on a D90 to allow the selection of a specific focus point? My wife started using her camera and soon discovered she could use the multi-controller to select the active focus point. Recently she has not been able to do this and we cannot find how to turn this facility back on.

He's already got it set on single-point AF (the center point), and it still has a whole lot more trouble locking onto things. I've been horribly frustrated (with the 510 and 70-300) shooting BIF, and have wished for his 100-400L's lightning-fast USM focusing. But for actual reliable single-shot AF, the 510 does better.

T. Jason Wright Photography is right, the VF even gets darker with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lens. I tested the outer focus points and I think they are exactly as reliable as the middle focus point, when it isn't really dark, because the middle focus point is more sensitive with lenses > f/2.8. The only thing to pay attention with the outer focus points is that they maybe ...

It sounds like your camera's autofocus is set to Closest Subject. Closest Subject automatically selects the autofocus point that's over whatever is nearest to the camera. On the D40 (so I assume this is true for the D60) you need to select the AF-Area Mode option by either pressing Menu and scrolling through to the Custom Setting Menu or by pressing the i button and then using the ...

Thanks. I probably should've written that I'm using a D80, the D90's ancestor. But your input allowed me to find it. D80: Custom Setting Menu 21 AF Area Illumination Same 3 choices you describe for the D90. I'm going w/ ON. No sense getting a little more battery power in exchange for out-of-focus shots to add to the "almost" pile. TXharris wrote: > D90 > a4 AF Point Illumination > This ...

I've mounted a few so far. My 28-70L and 24-105L focus lighting fast on the 5D2. However when I used a EF100 Macro, the focus hunts. The other two primes I've used were lighting fast. I'm still consider very new to dslr world...so i'm assuming that this is due to the setting/setup of my shots that's wrong and not due to hardware or famous af issue...that i've seen in this forums ;)

Smart Pitstop's reply is as follows: "Thanks for enquiry. Your concern is right. Regarding the LED, it doesn't meant to be brighter in this situation. It will only make the brake lights more focus and concentrate on a point. So we mentioned in our product description that it will make the brake light more concentrate only. We appologize for any misleading to you." Smart Pitstop, ...
