As the title suggests I have a piece of metal wall art which I want to hang on my walls. In the past I've used the screw in plasterboard fittings which is fine when they are hidden by a mirror, picture frame etc but they would be visible with this piece of wall art. Any alternatives which will look less unsightly? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have an upstairs shower cubicle which was just tiled plasterboard. It started to leak, and having looked at it the first couple of feet of plasterboard is dropping apart. So, given that there's quite a bit of work to do, I was wondering which would be cheaper and better: 1) get someone to replace plasterboard (and tank it - I've been reading these forums a lot), and ...

I went to change the bulb from a downlighter in the bathroom and instead of unscrewing the cover, the whole unit rotated. This was followed shortly by a load of the plasterboard crumbing out of the hole. The unit is now hanging from the wires in a hole too big with a ragged and loose edge. Any suggestions? (shouting at the wife didn't achieve anything)

Following a small leak in my corner shower (which has now been fixed) I have to replace the bottom 6 tiles on both walls before the screen can be re-fitted. One wall is skimmed plasterboard on timber studs and in taking the old tiles off, the plasterboard has been badly damaged at the bottom. I presume I will need to remove the next row up as well, cut out the old plasterboard and replace it with...

Hi everyone..... Just a quick question, I've had the bathroom boarded out with plasterboard and need to make even a few areas. I was going to put primer on the plasterboard all round and then fill in the uneven areas with bonding. However had mixed comments on this from other contractors and would like some advice. We I be better using one coat from Wickes or bonding to fill in the ...

Hi could anyone help please. We have just removed all the wallpaper in our living room and on some parts the top part of the plasterboard has come away leaving large sections bare. We want to re-paper the walls but are worried that the wallpaper adhesive will just soak into these bare parts and leave bumpy walls. Can anyone give us some advice - is there something we can buy to seal the ...

Hi, I am about to fit a shower enclosure onto tiles/plasterboard. The fixings supplied are wallplugs for solid walls so are no use. Is there a similar type of wall plug specically for plasterboard or do I need to use one of the fixings which spread out at the back of the plasterboard. Gordon

I am currently contemplating plasterboarding over existing lath and plaster in an older Edwardian weatherboard home, instead of chipping away the existing lath and plaster and then re-plastering. Aside from the level of mess & dust, what disadvantages are there from doing this? There are two of the three bedrooms which have some nice cornices on them, so I am not sure (at least at this ...

Hi folks, thanks for your answers so far - much appreciated. Next one - any issues with a new radiators being mounted on or through 50mm insulation backed plaster board ?. The boards will be put up with dot and dab onto 9" solid walls. Thanks very much.

Hello Looking for a bit of advice, ideally from someone who has actually done this job. I live in a new house, it's got the dreaded plasterboard and dabs on thermalite blocks. My original plan for fitting the gun cabinet was to cut out an area of the plasterboard, clean up the surface and bolt the cabinet directly onto the blockwork. However, this is i) messy ii) will take up too much ...

hello i'm trying to figure how to insulate the bedroom and living rooms in my flat. the flat is on the top floor of the building in the roof space and a lot of the (sloping) ceilings of both rooms are made of uninsulated plasterboard which is attached to the roof rafters with no insulation in the gap between the plasterboard and the roofing felt. the gap between the plasterboard ...

In our kitchen there is a patch on the wall (about 10" x 8") where the emulsion has been bubbling and flaking off. The plaster underneath has also become powdery. The wall is plastered on the top of plasterboard - completed about six years ago. Underneath the plasterboard is an old internal wall. The entire plastered wall is dry (apart from a couple of spots about 2 inches by 3 inches ...
