so why is it more pinions equals more power? in my particular case it's my np231. I'll be going from 4 pinions to 6, and I hear this makes for more torque. Is it simply because more teeth in contact equals more power transferred ? Anyone have a thought?

As stated a ratio is a ratio (2.72 ratio will not change)....it'll tolerate more TQ input without 'splodin. Edit: I did this with my D&D Machine NP231/D300 doubler. I wanted the extra pinions for TQ capacity as I am running a pretty TQ'y 383sbc. I had used a similar year spread for the pinion gears because they did change the gear pitch somewhere along the line..I forget the years. I just ...

First of all, I am a newly registered user, so thanks for any help guys. I am confused with the concept of planetary gears. Lets say there is an rpm applied to a planetary gear of 600 rpm and the gear ratio is 3:1. So the output of the planetary gear then spins 1800 rpm (600 * 3). Now my question is a bit confusing, since there is a higher gear ratio the output...

Planetary gear explosion...... Parts people can only find i 37 tooth planetary... i need a 34 tooth planetary i know this transmission is used in the 97-01 300zx, 98-04 Frontier, 98 pathfinder, 00-04 xterra. First question is are the two planetary's interchangeable without any problems? Second question is does anyone have a suggestion of where i can get a 34 tooth plantary

yea, Im not running mine in a doubler configuration..but I am running 40" IROKS I was hopeing the teralow would hold up where it is a light buggy and Im running 5;13 gears I hoped it would take some of the pressure off the case but its probably time for an atlas.. I might see if I can make up some bushings first and get through a couple more seasons, so I can save up for an atlas
