One for all the experts on PPRuNe, when wasthe last RPT flight operated into Melbourne with a piston aircraft? Was it Kendalls Herons in the late 70's or was there a few operators past that time?

Hello all, I was doing a bit of revising recently and instead of making things clearer, it made them muddier . What I can't understand is why a piston engine is said to be a constant volume engine. When the piston moves, dosn't volume vary? I tried reasoning it out with the gas laws, but that confused me even more Cheers

This has merely crossed my mind and I haven't researched it as such, so thought I would try informally here. When operating a normally aspirated six cylinder piston engine above Full Throttle Altitude (ie where firewall throttle lever position cannot achieve any higher manifold pressure), is there anything to be achieved once established in the cruise of retarding the throttle position to a ...

The piston is constantly moving up and down. So at any given time the volume is constantly changing in the cylinder. So why is it said that combustion in a piston engine is at constant volume

Hi there, Can anyone recommend any decent books on piston engine operation and evolution in aircraft. I don't mean the standard Bob Tait/ATC book, something a fair bit more in depth. I'm struggling with understanding a few concepts but every book I have only gives very vague explanations. Thanks J

I can't seem to find any of the online vendors who list piston rings for the 3a engine. has anyone bought any and where from? I'm hoping for in the $100/set(4) range too. I know value over quality but it's economy over weak motor. Thanks in advance for any help with this odd little engine I'm beginning to learn about. Dan in NY

PK... you are correct. The first paint scheme for the Titans was QF white with a Red flash up the tail. Looked crap and did not last long before it went to standard QF tail with roo. Yes, it was an aversion to piston engines that drove that fwd in the first place. TKFS. The colours went from full TN to QF white with red flash then full QF. Photos: Cessna 404 Aircraft ...

Happy to be of assistance, if you need anything feel free to call anytime. We have done and still do quite a lot of drag race nitrous engines but last couple years we have gotten heavily into boosted stuff and I tell you what, nitrous is pretty cool but the power you can get out of a boosted engine is out of this world. I have seen over 6.3 hp/ci with a well designed turbocharged engine on ...
