Looks like numerous brands have a 800-850 fill light and packable jacket and parka including Montbell, MH, Mammut, and now even LL Bean. The trade-off on weight is durability. What do you suggest, specifically for fall-spring wear only when you need it on summit stops during day hikes? (or in emergencies).

Couple years ago I picked up the cold snap bibs. They work great for ice fishing and open water fishing. Can't help but notice that the parka is another hot item. Vexilar site was sold out right away (unless you're looking for a big enough size to fit a Moose). Managed to make my way out to FF last weekend and they actually had the jackets! So I broke down and bought one. It even has the ...

Hey all you waterfowl hunters I got a deal for you. I got this awesome 4 in 1 parka a few years back and maybe wore it 3 times to the rainy river. I dont hunt and its just been sitting in the closet so its time it finds a new owner that can get some use out of it. Plenty of pockets and the bottom 2 have the elastic shell holders in them. Zip out liner coat. Also has the bird bag zipped and ...

Gearing up for my upcoming PCT hike. I've hear the jacket of choice is the Marmot DriClimb. I have found another option and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with it, particularly on the PCT. http://www.montbell.us/products/disp...1&p_id=2303 183 Weights about 4 oz. as opposed to the 14 oz DriClimb. I'm guessing the DriClimb has more wind resistant and rain resistant fabric. Is ...

In the Episode where Mr. "Jefferson" and his son, Blanket move to town there is a scene where Kenny is seen wearing a costume mask instead of his orange parka and we hear him speak a few lines audibly before his inevitable demise. I had to look it up to see if that was actually Kenny because the whole thing was kind of disorienting. The Wikipedia page about the episode said it was the second ...

Feathered Friends of Seattle makes really nice down products: www.featheredfriends.com Their stuff is "handmade in Seattle since 1972" for those who are concerned w/where their gear is produced. It's not cheap, but I came across a barely worn Volant jacket in a used gear shop there for about $100. Loved it on Denali... don't wear it much in CA!
